It is ridiculous fast and probably not really smart.

But, the fact that we (Europe) have labels for the maximum speed a tire is approved for even till 300kmh, does indicate it is not abnormal.

As others already mentioned, above a certain speed, in case of an accident, you will be held more accountable.

But folks with BMW, Audi, Porsches etc. do drive serious cars. Going faster than 250 is not an issue with most of the models. The biggest challenge is to slow down from these speeds in a controlled way.

I couldn't agree more with your stand about the need for devices to be smart.

It is all about data-mining and advertising.

Maybe this is just me (or wishful thinking), but I do notice more people being cautious about stuff that needs a cloud connection.

People around me create dummy accounts to register Android enabled televisions, prefer stuff by eufy over ring etc.

Maybe we -as a bunch of uncontrollable nerds- should educate people more or at least share stuff like the wiki by Louis.

People need to know, they are the product..

Oh! The IOT toaster, perhaps a really good analogy! That was a good read and fitting for this situation.

When was it published? 2019/2020 ?? Well, took just 5 years for the corporate greed to get on par.

The point here is:

  • not all functionality is available as-is. You need to install a cloud connected app.
  • a cloud connection is not per se one direction. It is more than possible, the people operating this cloud (for Bosch) have the means (read: api) to connect back into your network via the hardware.

You might take a good look at this work.

As long as the firmware of the dishwasher isn't audited by third parties (or even better: open source), who knows what it is able to do in your network?

And all of this is not necessary, before the cloud, dishwashers worked fine too.

Nice write-up by Jeff.

Things are getting out of hand. It's time for a change. Only buy equipment with local access.

Docker host running immich amongst other containers. Backups are done nightly to a nas device on location, the immich container has a volume mount to an external SSD.

Fire: nah, won't survive it. Planning to fix this in the next few weeks, setting up a Nas on a remote location.

Just for support purchased the '"license"', entire household moved from Google photos to immich. All using wireguard with the 'include these applications' option. Gave them access to jellyfin and satellite receiver too, so they are very happy to keep it up and running. No complaints, immich works great.

No.

Your brain has to process stuff. And it is at it's best when you are sleeping. Having your kids sleep in is beneficial for developing their brains.

Society might think you are lazy, but instead your brain is processing new thoughts and information.

Getting exhausted is not ok for a normal sleep pattern. Don't overdo it.

These people use very expensive soap....

If it is too cold for the equipment, it is too cold for me.

This error is a nice indication for me that I need to turn up the diesel heater before starting the voron.

I totally agree with you, the wording could be more clear.

Reading this: we have enabled a way for you to financially support the continued development of Immich, ensuring the software can move forward and will be maintained, by offering a lifetime license of the software

Was enough for me to order a server license (..). I like the software and being a professional developer I totally understand you might need funds to do the job.

So this is just my €0.02 to keep the flow from caffeine to code flowing..

It is a donation. You will get a license key and when applied to your instance, it will report you are a supporter in the web interface.

For me it was a means to show some support.
