900 pounds of trash would be a great band name for a specifically weighted set of individuals.

Good on those homies for getting it cleaned up. Picking up trash is never much fun, but it really does a lot to make the neighborhood feel happier.

Philosophically, yes. One is created with intent, one is created to mimic intent. Human made works can challenge norms and explore entirely new ways of thinking about a subject. AI content is essentially trying to take everything relevant to a given prompt, blend it together, and give you something that meets your expectations.

Now as far as is it practically the same, that's where things are going to start getting sticky. If an AI makes a piece of art that resonates with people the same way that a human created piece of art does, those feelings are just as genuine. There is no practical difference. We're seeing that right now with AI generated music. Just this week an AI country song hit #1 on billboard. The people that enjoy that song enjoy it regardless of how it was made. Personally, I think that country is kind of a low hanging fruit since it has effectively been following the same formula for a couple of decades, but it's a great proof of concept.

That is what some of the tech companies are doing. For situations like the one in the article, that obviously isn't the case, since rates are going up. If the tech companies are building and maintaining their own infrastructure for their outsized power needs, rates should either stay the same or fall (assuming that the tech company builds capacity to handle peak loads during LLM training and sells capacity during non peak loads). Rates going up in response to new data centers can only mean that the other grid users are subsidizing new capacity being added or buying energy from elsewhere at a higher rate.

Yeah, I don't really care at this point. I'm tired of people acting like it's wrong to not be willing to compromise with a group of people that rubber stamp inhumane treatment of other people. This admin is doing fascist Nazi shit and yet I still see Republicans covering for them and supporting them. Until Republicans can stop condoning and supporting evil, they deserve to be ostracized.

I do not give a single fuck if it drives them further right. Trying to compromise with these people has not done anything but drive them to the far right anyway, so why should they be validated by continuing to take them seriously?

It's been 17 years and I still remember it fondly, so I suppose so! You should make sure to try every derivation of those pastries just to make certain they don't give you superpowers.

The AI said that graphite tips on the control rods was a great idea! Let's get this low power test done for The Company, it'll be great! Worst case scenario, we just hit the AZ5 button and harmlessly scram the reactor with no problems!

That sounds really pleasant. As a kid I camped at 12kft with my dad, and not being acclimated to the altitude was brutal. We had to stop and breathe between every tent pole we put up! Still worth it to stay the night in the rockies, though.

Ope, caught me! Thanks for the correction!

When asked if he had been bitten by ticks, his wife said he had in the past and that, earlier in the summer, he has at least 12 or 13 "chigger" bites around his ankles. Researchers said that in the eastern U.S., what are sometimes referred to as "chiggers" are often larvae of lone star ticks

TIL. What an unpleasant and unexpected way to go. Even if they'd considered alpha gal, he could have rightfully said "well it's not like anyone has ever died from it" and opted to wait to see if symptoms continued. I've had a bad stomachache after a meal before, and I wouldn't immediately jump to this as a possibility, especially if I didn't know I'd been bitten by a lone star.

Tragic, RIP to bro

Another fine example of big business socializing the costs of the business while privatizing the profit. True fairness would make them pay for the cost of adding the additional capacity that they require, rather than jacking up everyone's rates to pay it for them.
