You get a circular voltage gradient away from the strike spot. A human with their two legs doesn't spread along that as far as a deer's four legs do, so they catch more voltage drop across that, which also runs through their body (along their heart etc). It just depends a lot on how and where a body is affected by electricity.

I like to lay on my side in bed and read, and my cat will snuggle up in front of me. Often I'll later flip around, and we'll have each others' back.

I tend to flip around a lot before falling asleep, so she'll usually go lay at my feet (preferably on my blanket), but she's good as long as she's close.

Don't cats have a protective instinct as well, where they face away from one while being comfy together?

They ought to force them to put photos of where the eggs came from on the packaging, like with cigarettes. Photos of the actual plant/range/etc. Might make people consider not picking the cheapest option.
