Precisely this, linux is about choice. It's not like suddenly most distros would change init systems and make it near impossible to choose... oh, wait...
I prefer mutable and see immutable mostly as lazyness but if people wanna use'em go for it, i'm not pushing mutable down their throats.

Any alternative to this site that's more in line with privacy/foss/fediverse etc? CouchSurfing's gone to shit, used to be great.

The blog part: create an .onion or .i2p site. Or create a site elsewhere but always do any related tasks through Tor at the very least (including account creation and email usage).
Not so sure about the mailing list part.

Kim Stanley Robinson's Red Mars is pretty hard-scifi.
Alastair Reynolds' Revelation Space not so much but very entertaining.
Edit: for light reading Stross's Saturns Children is fun.

An area of which country? It's pretty damn in context if you ask me and the answers may vary wildly by country.
