If you find an injured owl:

Note your exact location so the owl can be released back where it came from. Contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitation specialist to get correct advice and immediate assistance.

Minimize stress for the owl. If you can catch it, toss a towel or sweater over it and get it in a cardboard box or pet carrier. It should have room to be comfortable but not so much it can panic and injure itself. If you can’t catch it, keep people and animals away until help can come.

Do not give food or water! If you feed them the wrong thing or give them water improperly, you can accidentally kill them. It can also cause problems if they require anesthesia once help arrives, complicating procedures and costing valuable time.

If it is a baby owl, and it looks safe and uninjured, leave it be. Time on the ground is part of their growing up. They can fly to some extent and climb trees. If animals or people are nearby, put it up on a branch so it’s safe. If it’s injured, follow the above advice.

Gators are lurking under this nesting hollow dead tree. Not one, but 3 barred owlets are in it & barely can hang on in high winds. Mum is nearby, watching from this little palm tree. If you didn't pay attention, you wouldn't even notice her: well-blended!

oh no it's luring writers with text in its mouth

for writers: DO NOT READ WHAT'S INSIDE THE GATOR'S MOUTH!

I didn't even notice that! I was worried I did it, but the photographer has removed it from their post, so I'm in the clear!

Or the gator disposed of the evidence and swam off! 😮

i think it was from the original image, since a lot of social media apps have built in image editing and lemmy isn't one of them (unless theres some app idk about with that)

the gator probably ran off after grabbing a writer tho

In nature, there's always some hazard waiting for an opportunity to present itself. I hope these little ones get flying right on the first try!

I'm a bit curious what will happen with these babies. Usually they do "branching" where they kinda do gliding hops to get from branch to branch to build up their flight muscles until they can actually fly, but this tree doesn't look to have anywhere to hop around to. I'm trusting mother owl put some thought into this location...
