Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

We need to treat this like the threat that it is NOW. If we wait; it will only get worse!

Yes, everyone really does. Quick easy thing to do is contact your local representative, which you can do in minutes from your sofa.

Download the app "5 calls." It's free. It will give you your representatives and senators phone numbers, and a script. You can set daily, weekly or monthly reminders.

It literally takes a bit less than 10 minutes to call them about 3 issues. More calls = more fear of being primaried.

America should have been treating it's collapse since 2008. No one is going to do anything. We might as well start stocking up on lube.

They are going to wait as long as they possibly can before "officially" announcing it so it's more difficult to stop. Meanwhile, until then, they will just do everything that they would be doing had they already announced.

I know this one! What's the last sentence of 12th amendment?

[–] donuts@lemmy.world 16 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Non-US person here, had to look it up:

But no person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.

Which means the theory of running as VP to have the President resign on Day 1 will be rendered moot.

[–] toast@retrolemmy.com 13 points 11 months ago

Duh. Make him speaker of the house (an unelected position), then have the vice president & president resign. Do you even know how to fascist?

[–] uienia@lemmy.world 7 points 11 months ago (1 children)

What has that to do with anything? Trump and his backers has long since shown that any law or even constitution is worth no more than the paper it was written on.

You misunderstand how most dictatorships work. You either crown someone absolute king - and there's less than a handful of them - or you pretend to work within a constitutional framework which is the most popular form of dictatorship by far and the only realistic option in the US, at least for now. The latter introduces limits to what a dictator can do without breaking the illusion that everything is working as it should.

I can't overstate how much effort the garden variety dictatorship puts into making everything seem "business as usual".

If Trump goes there he might as well try to formally replace the entire constitution.

Just follow Putin-Medvedev playbook and all will be good /s

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 10 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Motherfucker hasn't even finished 6 months of his second, why the fuck is he talking about a third for? We aren't going survive other 4 years of this asshole.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 4 points 11 months ago

He's talking about it now to maximize time spent normalizing the idea in the minds of the public.

It'll go directly from "nah, it's just an idle hypothetical" directly to "so what? We always knew this was the plan and haven't done anything about it, so it must be okay" without stopping in the middle for "holy shit, this is unconstitutional bullshit!"
