He realizes that the export of US-made cars will collapse, right?

Doesn’t matter, isolationism.

That said, I am curious enough to ask my MAGA parents at some point how they mentally deal with Trump now saying DOW doesn’t matter and who cares if prices go up vs his first term where that was all he would talk about other presidents doing…

Trump is right though in that we shouldn’t care about the DOW.

We should care because literally every time the auto industry or airline etc fails we bail it out and fuck over a generation. We’ve done it so many times were fucking over unborn generations at this point. Imagine. Being born into debt in 2050. Thats pretty depraved regardless of politics.

I was surprised when he complained that the rest of the world doesn’t buy American cars. I thought Ford sells quite a lot and it seemed as though the other companies aren’t interested in foreign markets. If they want to sell their cars in Europe why don’t they make cars that look like the cars Europeans buy, rather than those ugly American ones? I don’t think anyone would have had a problem buying an American car otherwise.

Because what he says is bullshit anyway

There are several foreign manufacturers that have production facilities in the US. I imagine they are about to see a major payoff on that decision in the coming years. This will only hurt American manufacturers that will see a decrease in sales outside the US, regardless of price, due to growing anti-american sentiment. That train has already departed, the only thing Trump can do about that is increase the speed.

I'm glad I bought my new car in January

Well, Orange Fürher, since you don't care about increasing car (and gas) prices, you could:

  1. Divest from highways and freeways and put that money towards building high speed rail infrastructure for interstate/cross-country travel.

  2. Subsidize said rail infrastructure to make fares very affordable.

  3. Invest in underground metro and above ground streetcar infrastructure for inner-city travel. Don't forget about the buses.

  4. Subsidize production of two-wheeled transport (bicycle, ebike, motorcycle, scooter, etc.) and create and/or improve infrastructure to accommodate for them.
