Overview:

The community dedicated to boycotting the US until they stop fascism, restore full democracy and start following international law.

Americans have a moral obligation to resist Donald Trump and project 2025 at every turn.

America is a flawed democracy currently being ruled by oligarchs. Stop the backslide! Dont let America become the next Hungary.

America needs to challenge the court rulings of citizens united v. fec and shelby county v. holder, protect the media, implement independent district drawing, and the single transferable vote so they don't end up having people stay home in life-changing elections because they cannot vote for their favourite candidate.

Whether it's self-hosted or hosted in a country where rule of law holds doesn't matter to me. But I find the timeline of location history that Google Maps has to be absolutely invaluable.

Is there any way to get that feature with minimal battery usage from a different provider?

Depending on the usecase, but Opentracks comes to mind

It's a little hard to tell from their website & Fdroid page, but this seems to be more of an open/privacy-forward equivalent to Strava or Garmin Connect, rather than to Google Maps' location history.

I imagine any replacement for Google Maps' location history would need to come with its own replacement Google Play Services, to sit deeper in the system and enable background location tracking separate from Google.

OSM/Open Street Maps can work as a replacement for Google Maps, but I do't think they cover location history

OSMAnd is another alternative
