I'd say so! I've been after more like both honestly.
Best I can say is look at the filmographies of creators and directors Keiichi Sato and Kazuyoshi Katayama, respectively. Sato considers it his magnum opus, but they've both gone on to do a lot of other work.
I'm a little biased about LA Blue Girl.
...Is there a different series that happens to share the same name, or did you really mean a hentai?
Maybe they meant Perfect Blue?
