By far the bigger issue, although supplanting melatonin has a mixed evidence base to begin with

The management team thinks this is the best way to meet our quarterly target and get our bonuses.

Not only is this shitty shrinkflation, it is using extra plastic for a need that is not there and creating twice as much plastic waste as necessary. If we can change the way packaging is allowed to be made to fit a product then they wouldn’t be able to pull this shit so easily to begin with.

The extra air is to keep the chips from getting crushed and breaking in transport, and other lies we tell ourselves to not feel the crushing weight of being ripped off at every turn.

Yeah, but that part is true. Ever tried to pack half a bag of chips that was rolled up tight? Nothing but crumbs. And the people and machines slinging product before we lay hands on it aren't exactly handling fine china.

The air pressure keeping the sealed bag inflated does help, underfilling does not. If anything, having more room inside the bag leads to more sloshing of the contents. Your example is apples to oranges. Chip bags ship in boxes with other bags of chips, not mixed in with a bunch of clothes or whatever you're packing your chips with.

The giant bag stuffed full of tortilla chips I buy has less breakage than many of the underfilled bags I see, because the boxes don't leave any room for the contents to slosh around.

They sell this brand at Costco. Was this purchased from there? Will make sure to complain to their CS if so. They are usually better about this kind of thing.

My recent Costco bottle looks like the one on the left with 250.

My mom pointed out the exact same thing to me with the bottle of a different brand that she got at the store this weekend. I'm sure it was just coincidence that the previously non-deceptive size bottle was out of stock.

Governments should pass laws around packaging to prevent that...

At least the US is aware. I have high doubts on this current administration passing anything that resembles a benefit to average citizens though

This should be fucking illegal.

  • purposely deceiving consumers
  • extra plastic produces (CO2 + plastic pollution)
  • extra packaging (cardboard? CO2)
  • extra transportation resources (CO2)

This is beyond unethical, it's evil.

Our consultant suggested it and the management team agrees. This is really the best win-win out of the box thinking we can come up with.

Clearly it is just a measure to increase effectiveness via the placebo effect. This may reduce substance use!

[–] ODuffer@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

At least you can buy it OCT. I have to get a prescription from my doctor to obtain it.

Keep your eye on the profits, people. HR is watching you.
