I discovered this hidden gem quite by accident. I like to take edibles and progressively watch weirder stuff as time passes, to align with the intensity of the high. The Beekeeper was supposed to be the first watch, a simple run of the mill action thriller.

Then the uncanny valley started. Not specifically in a visual sense, but the pacing of the cuts, and the dialogue. There is something very slightly off no matter where you look, but that clashes with what you expect from a Jason Statham movie in just the right way.

There is also so much left unexplained and unexplored in terms of the plot that it feels exactly like when you're high and everything feels like it's going out of its way to be undecipherable.

All of this combines with the honestly decent action and cameos by Josh Hutcherson and Jeremy Irons (who I think is trying to do a Southern accent, but he hasn't gotten back to me) to make for quite a unique experience for stoners and good-bad movies alike.

Have you seen the movie? What did you think about it?

I've seen it, it is typical 'statham plays violent bald dude' movie, it feels a bit like a parody while everyone refuses to aknowledge it. I believe that his peak movie was crank. 🙃

Well, Crank did have the advantage of having both the initial idea and execution be completely batshit insane, so no disagreements there

Felt like they made a Jason Statham movie after promising not to, and were contractually obligated to fix it by cutting those parts ;-)

It wasn’t terrible but I would definitely go back and watch the first 2 Transporter films 5-6 times each before coming back for seconds here.

Feels like inexperienced direction… like when there’s the big reveal about who the kid’s mom is, the lead-up is way to long. The suspense dissipates completely… maybe anticlimactic is the new climactic. I don’t know.

But I pretty much hated Hobbs and Shaw so don’t take my word for anything 😂

Oh yes, I should have added a "if you're already familiar with Statham's work' disclaimer for the recommendation

Did you happen to watch “BMW Films”? A bunch of cool shorts they did as a promotion… the one starring Clive Owen is basically the template for all of the Jason Statham Transporter movies.

Ooh, I haven't. I'll check them out!
