Add support for the Proteus Byowave controller

That sure looks like an interesting device, but I cannot imagine that being worth the €300 for anyone. I would expect that even someone who really needs a far-from-standard controller for accessibility reasons could find a better (albeit less reconfigurable) option to suit their needs.

Yeah it's definitely an interesting and unique design, so it doesn't exactly surprise me that it costs AU$525. Disability tax is kind of a fact of life honestly, between products being for a smaller niche of the community, and the knowledge that insurance of some sort is often paying for it. Comparatively though, Microsoft's Adaptive Controller starts at only AU$130, but that isn't really a full controller OOTB. You need at least a couple of joysticks, and a few more buttons, which cost almost as much as the controller again each, pushing up towards the cost of the Byowave device. However, it's a fully extensible platform using simple 3.5mm TS and TRS for buttons, analogue triggers and sticks. Plus two USB-A inputs for joysticks as well. This allows for much more specialised inputs such as Sip and Puff switches, but these start at US$325 (AU$515).

I guess my point is that it's not great, but it's not terrible either for certain niches.

It's good to see Valve is so invested in making gaming on Linux awesome. 👍 😀 😎

From the article ...

08:47 Impossible? Wake on Bluetooth w/ the LCD Deck

[–] barkingspiders@infosec.pub 13 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I am crazy stoked about this! My primary play setup is hooked up to a TV with a Bluetooth controller and this means I can wake the deck from the couch finally 🤩🤩🤩

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 5 points 9 months ago

Yeah, I noticed it a couple of days ago with my OLED steam deck, where apparently that's been a thing for longer already.

I tried it out. The current lack of BLE support excludes a fair number of controllers (Steam Controller, Xbox Series Controller amongst them). Waking with a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller works but getting the controller to properly connect after that is finnicky, oddly enough.

Is it impossible because this guy can't download the update, and doesn't know what editing is?

fr? i have had the questionable honour to witness several battery depletions from my deck waking up because i was near them with my paired headphones without noticing. So glancing at this post had my hopes up for a few hot seconds :<
