Actually, there is. I had stretcher treatment for my back as a teenager, it was wonderful (especially combined with heat lamp and TENS treatment. Dangit, that's pure relaxation afterwards).
I suspect you would have missed out on some aspects of that during medieval torture.
Probably would have used a large fire underneath them instead of a heat lamp.
Don't think they had electricity for the TENS, though...
I too am over 30.
After a long day of work I often desire to be stretched on the rack ala Lurch in the Addams Family.

That rack looks ineffective as shit, there is no ratchet so the torturers have to maintain tension by standing on the bars. Hope they don't slip and get a taste of the pain.
