Actually yeah you're right. I watched some review before I dld it and the person there said it was "new". Should have double checked.

Yeah, but it randomly freezes for me in Linux. Really annoying.

Otherwise it looks quite nice.

Apparently GTA Online progress is completely separate, "just start from scratch!" is Rockstar's response to that from what I've seen

They locked me out of GTA online when they added battleeye and didn't make it work on Linux. GTA O was shit anyway, everyone was hacking or griefing.

Having a complaint of them implementing anti-cheat and another about everyone cheating is interesting

Not being able to self host is the cause of both problems

They could've started with anti cheat on the server side first. Characters were teleporting, money was appearing out of thin air, people were invulnerable, etc. Basic shit that doesn't need any client side changes.

And yeah, being able to run your own servers would be preferable.

If it was only that but their other game was apparently leaking IPs of peers, so some troll DDOSed some streamer so hard they needed to switch ISPs.

GTA Online isn't server based, it is peer-to-peer. Hence why it is so easy to cheat. Rockstar decided to use the cheaper option instead of the much better option.

The 20 minute loading time for any activity is what drove me away even before I had a chance to be annoyed by anything else in it.

I'm not sure why they're separate, but I thought it had the progress import that the other versions did? So you just load your existing player into the new version instead of starting from scratch.

It's not been a great experience. For instance, the lag I experience when trying to ride in a friend's car while they drive makes running with a crew downright impossible. And that's pretty much the only reason I play in the first place, is for shenanigans in a friends only session.

I think it’s a tale of two cities here - those who play single player are pleased and those who play multiplayer are pissed. I’m a bit of both.

Good thing I couldn’t care less about Online. I just played the career start to finish again without a single issue. I didn’t have a single issue with performance at max graphics either. If you ignore the online aspect, this was an improvement in every regard.

Kinda sucks for those having issues. At least the original game is still playable from what I understand.
