At this point, I choose to believe Brexit was a Russian operation to worsen the UK and EUs relationship to the point where a successful combined defence would be impossible.

Thankfully the intended consequences have been avoided despite the damage Brexit did, and continues to do

The fact that at the same time nationalist parties across Europe were getting money from Russia is surely reinforcing your beliefs. As a (in)famous politician used to say, thinking bad is a sin, but you often get it right.

That's definitely a part of it. Plus, I optimistically (perhaps naively) want to believe that my country wouldn't do something so stupidly short sighted without outside intervention
