General Discussion for politics in the UK.
Please don't post to both [email protected] and [email protected] .
Pick the most appropriate, and put it there.

Posts should be related to UK-centric politics, and should be either a link to a reputable news source for news, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread. (These things should be publicly discussed)

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

[email protected] appears to have vanished! We can still see cached content from this link, but goodbye I guess! :'(

I don't why this is a surprise to anyone. For as long as I can remember (and longer than that still) the US has been about America First. Nothing it has done in it's entire existence says otherwise. Obama and Biden have fooled people into thinking they USA is some honest broker of peace and stability in the world when in reality it's the same old self interested, blackmailing, bullying vacuous country they've always been. Trump merely doesn't show any pretence about it.

I mean, the US just isn't trust worthy anymore.

Even if a democrat is voted in next election cycle, it feels like the significant change every 5(4? I don't remember how the US system works) years doesn't make the US a dependable ally.

i disagree somewhat.

it's certainly a jarring change in narrative, but i think trump will be brought into line by the 'deep state', the donors, the intelligence services, etc.. US foreign policy is a 50 odd year plan. it would monumental task to disentangle US from EU and I can't imagine a world in which the US allows the EU to do what ever what it wants.

Under normal circumstances, yes, but Trump is firing anyone with half a brain cell. This will take decades to fix... assuming the next election is even fair and Congress/Trump get replaced.

Yeah as a European, I'd like to see America get back on track but I think we kind of have to see it as an unreliable entity at best and a hostile one at worst for now.

And even if Trump is out in 4 years (not a given at the moment IMO) and isn't replaced by someone just as bad (or worse), there's no guarantee that US politics won't just slide back into the same nonsense in 4 years anyway.

I think the logical thing for most other countries to do is to figure out how to go on without the US and hope it comes back around eventually, but this might take a long time to unfuck.
