The law gives the Interior Minister power to expel first-degree relatives—parents, siblings, spouses—of those Israel labels as “terrorists.” Deportation can be triggered by: ➤ Expressing praise or support for a banned group (including nearly all Palestinian factions) ➤ Withholding information about an alleged attack

Who is affected? ➤ Israeli citizens: 7–15 years of deportation ➤ East Jerusalem residents: 10–20 years ➤ Deportees to be expelled to Gaza or “another location”

Zeina Barbar’s Case

➤ Barbar, a 24-year old Palestinian from East Jerusalem, a member of PFLP, was released from Israeli prison as part of the current prisoner exchange deal. ➤ Israel now seeks to deport her over her father’s past conviction—despite no evidence linking her to violence. ➤ Israeli media alleges she expressed support for Palestinian factions on social media. ➤ Two others, Tasnim Odeh and Mohammad Abu Halwa, also face expulsion for being relatives of “terrorists” and showing support To Palestinian groups on social media.

Legal experts think Israel’s Supreme Court is likely to strike down the law.
