8. Misinformation is prohibited.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. In Umpiem Mai camp in Thailand, which is home to more than 10,000 people who fled the brutal civil war in neighbouring Myanmar, a resident and a health worker told ABC that multiple patients who were reliant on oxygen have now died.

“The medical workers left without even taking the equipment and the patients had to return to their homes, including some who had to be carried out,” said Sulaiman Mawlawi, a camp resident. “It was a very tragic moment for us.”

They don't care. I'd be shocked if this news even enters their brain.

All they saw was the headline "USAID Funding Cut". They didn't care about the consequences. They are focused on Red, White, and Blueland now and don't fuck one iota of a fuck about what's going on in a country they probably didn't think even existed.

I think the real answer for most of MAGA that saw it would be: "It sucks but America can't solve everyone's problems, oh well."

Careful, people might try to tell you that you share responsibility too. I've had waaaaay too many people try to tell me that I, a trans woman who voted for Harris, must somehow share responsibility for my own oppression and the oppression of others at GOP hands.

Fucking disgusting.

I've heard multiple really fucking disturbing things regarding queer people on Lemmy lately that do not get enough pushback and that is one of them.

Some others said to me (paraphrased):

"You're complaining about a genocide that hasn't happened yet when there's genocide going on right now in Gaza!" The reaction to that link: "That isn't genocide and you're making light of genocide if you call it that."

"You ran away instead of staying to fight" (Said to me multiple times because I got my gay daughter out of the fucking country to save her) along with "you think she'll be any safer in the UK?" Yes. Not one person has threatened her for being queer since she's been here or given her shit for dressing too "manly." When she was in school in Indiana? Yes, those were among the multiple ways she was severely bullied until she literally could not take public school anymore and so we put her in an online school.

But people would much rather point fingers and blame each other than do anything productive. That is being made clear to me over and over on Lemmy.

Oooo... I got that one from a furry on discord. My jaw hit the floor when they said that to me. Granted, they were European so they may not be keeping up with the news, but it was still shocking to hear that from a furry of all people.

In my case, the most recent fuckwit told me to never move to Europe because I wasn't wanted there.

(Do you want a furry trans-girl pet? I'll be your pet if you move me out too c:)

Believe me, if I could take every non-cishet person with us, I absolutely would. I don't even have a job or a permanent place for us to live yet and she can only be here for six months legally unless I get a job above a certain income threshold, so we're not safe yet. I think leaving at the end of January was still the right move though. Trump has proven to be so unpredictable that he could take any sort of horrific action at any moment.

I was heartbroken that my daughter had to leave behind not just her girlfriend, but one of her few other friends was a trans boy who was already facing a ton of shit for that, including parents who were only semi-supportive (they won't deadname him, but they won't give him hormones, he was only allowed an uncomfortable chest binder) and the school refuses to treat him like a boy. He's already self-harming and doing lots of drugs and he's only 13.

How'd you move to the UK without having a job lined up?

Money from selling my car plus a credit card. And my wife is still in the U.S. and has a job, so money on a day-to-day level is not a problem yet.

What the Biden administration and the US writ large have done to Palestine is unambiguously genocide. Biden, Harris, and every politician who clapped for Netanyahu can rot in hell.

What sickens me is the obvious the fact that Trump was only going to make the genocide even much worse while destroying human rights in every other aspect of his presidency, and everyone who failed to meaningfully vote against him knew or should absolutely have known that.
