I don't see much but I also don't frequent the main news and politics forums, and avoid getting involved in arguments about the best Linux distro is (when we all know it's... nah not going there).

Arch?

Man, your spelling is horrible. That looks nothing like mint at at

[–] otacon239@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Let’s just cut to the chase, cause we all know it’s TempleOS.

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Well, now I know you're crazy. I mean, you could have at least picked the #2, Hannah Montana Linux.

[–] retrolasered@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 year ago

If youre not running fuzix then youre just running bloatware

I always spelt it as Debian but who knows at this point how to spell anything correctly.

[–] threshold_dweller@lemmy.today 4 points 1 year ago

That's a funny way to spell LMDE, but we'll allow it.

[–] turtlepower@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

I'm in love with Bazzite. It may not be the absolute best, but as a gamer, I absolutely love it.

Hey Emperor, I’m happy to hear your experiences have been better :)

Yes, those two topics often turn out feisty in the comments. Thats why I’m excited for Mlem’s 2.0 release where we can toggle on/off filter word lists. Sometimes I just want to chill and enjoy the positives with my fellow lemmings.

I know that feeling! When I say I like Linux and use a particular distro someone is often attempting to convince me to switch to another one hehe. But I’m like “I like my current configuration and migrating again is a lot of work”.

OP, what the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I've been involved in numerous secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you the fuck out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my fucking words. You think you can get away with saying that shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my secret network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your miserable ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little "clever" comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your fucking tongue. But you couldn't, you didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit fury all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

Maybe you wouldn't see so much hostility if you weren't going around harassing people for owning horses. You get what you give.

Careful, you might get yelled at by Sunshine for posting pictures of captive cats fighting, you absolute monster!

[–] teslasaur@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

Thats right! Look at them, caught by their capitalist overlords and forced to work for their kibble.

Oh the humanity..

While I think Lemmy is great, I feel like there’s way more nitpicking about things and that I have felt more targeted here sometimes for differing in opinion on topics. On Reddit I don’t often run into the same person twice after having a disagreement unless it’s a subreddit I regularly visit. I just hope we could have more positive interactions in the future. !taneggs@lemmy.ca is great for that.

I’m really excited for more mature moderation tools to facilitate a kinder atmosphere in the future.

[–] sigmaklimgrindset@sopuli.xyz 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I feel like there’s way more nitpicking about things

NGL, I feel like there's a higher concentration of people on the spectrum on here that might contribute to this.

Game knows game.

Hello sunshine. I hope you are doing well and thriving.

[–] noodlejetski@lemm.ee 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

somehow this comment sounds the most hostile in this entire thread.

[–] 9bananas@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

it's the "dead tone" punctuation:

Hello sunshine. I hope you are doing well and thriving.

vs.:

Hello sunshine! I hope you are doing well and thriving! <3

completely changes the tone! ;)

I’m really excited for more mature moderation tools to facilitate a kinder atmosphere in the future.

I think it just results in more bans and blocking, instead of feeling picked on you'll just be banned, at least on far left instances/areas.

I got banned on Mastodon for 'climate change denialism' which I thought was hilarious considering I have likely spent more money and more of my time to be climate positive than the person who banned me and the people outraged by what I said combined

But they wanted to be hyped up by a garbage doomer article and by me arguing that the article was doomer bs and bad maths triggered them

This has not been my experience. Maybe try different communities or instances?

[–] GeneralEmergency@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Most of Lemmy's user base is made up of tech obsessed weirdos with an axe to grind against other social media platforms.

Of course they're going to be toxic.

[–] areyouevenreal@lemm.ee 6 points 1 year ago (3 children)

Yes, this is quite true.

Although we should spare a thought to the leftists doing this for political reasons who are also weirdos. Looking at hexbear, lemmygrad, and lemmy.ml in particular.

[–] Kichae@lemmy.ca 6 points 1 year ago

They have too many thoughts of too low a quality already. I'm not lending them any of mine.

On voyager you can block communities and filter keywords from post titles (not sure if it’s a voyager setting or a lemmy one though). My first two words are “Trump” and “Elon”, it has significantly improved my viewing experience as well as some other political words.

[–] jet@hackertalks.com 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

100% agreed

I have felt more targeted here sometimes for differing in opinion on topics.

There's really only two types of people who get mad at mods:

  • The people who break the rules then get mad that they suffered the consequences

  • The people who see mods using the position just to have the smallest modicum of power over others and just reflexively swing the ban hammer without looking at context, seeing if there is a pattern, giving warnings, or anything else. They just remove and block what they, personally, do not like.

There's a boatload of both here, just as there was on Reddit. The differences are that it's smaller here, so you actually see the people complaining about the mods and the modlog is public so you can always see if the mod's actions were reasonable.

Cuddling and licking each other's ears.
