I was servicing an arcade game room at a campground, and had a Cruis'n USA in which the picture looked a bit dim. I take the back panel off of the game, and see a 2cm hole burned through the Sharp Image monitor's chassis (circuit board) where there presumably used to be a resistor. It was still working, nobody complained about smoke or a smell?!

Heat a material and it will emit light in wavelength corresponding to the heat https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_body.
