"A big group of Trump supporters are polled, and over half of them say Biden made the economy worse."

Same title, more accurate.

[–] peteypete420@sh.itjust.works 9 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Fox news poll, should be reliable.

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio -5 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Just as reliable as the other news orgs.

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

How many billion-dollar lawsuits did they lose recently?

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio -3 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Well the other news orgs call it a news org. Wikipedia calls it a news org. The general public calls it a news org.

But yes, I am very aware that Lemmy doesn't call it a news org.

I consider them a news org, and I mod the community, so...

[–] Mr_Blott@feddit.uk 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I promise you, other news organisations do not think of Fox as a news organisation

But thanks for reminding us to block this community!

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Well, I promise they do. Even if you don't like it.

And yes, please block me and/or the community if you don't wanna hear from me.

Thanks, amiko!

I do not believe that for a second. Don't get me wrong, I don't think any of them are bastions of truth but fox is NOTHING but propaganda. I think the other keep some nuggets of truth in there with the proaganda.

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 6 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I wonder why they think that🤔

[–] UniversalMonk@sh.itjust.works -3 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Pretty sure the economy would be the same regardless of pres, tho...

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 5 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, I know. I imagine it's the 24hr propaganda.

[–] UniversalMonk@sh.itjust.works -3 points 11 months ago (1 children)

24-hour propaganda from both the Dems and the Repubs.

[–] LuxSpark@lemmy.cafe 3 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] UniversalMonk@sh.itjust.works -5 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

Yep. Exactly the same. No matter how mad that makes Lemmy.

Thanks!

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's only true because Trump would've made the same mistakes. He signed the first stimulus bill, after all, and was pushing for weird alternative treatments, so I have no doubt he would've had similar policies that would've continued to disrupt global supply chains and unbalance monetary policy.

The problem here is short sighted policies (i.e. win the midterms) that juice things enough to punt problems down the road.

What we should have done IMO is strongly encourage the elderly to stay home and otherwise keep business as usual. Lots of people would get sick, but we'd get some level of herd immunity quickly and keep the economy moving while protecting the most vulnerable. Both candidates would've juiced the economy with stimulus packages, and that directly contributed to inflation.

[–] UniversalMonk@sh.itjust.works 0 points 11 months ago

Agreed. Great points.

[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Fox forgot a global pandemic might have skewed the numbers a bit for both of them

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)
[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 4 points 11 months ago (1 children)

You don't think a global lockdown affects daily life and work?

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio -4 points 11 months ago (2 children)

Well, Biden ordered it. So yeah, I guess that skewed things, but I remember everyone praising him.

But yeah, that could have skewed the numbers. But doesn't make the poll wrong. It just provides a reason for it.

[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

It does make this post' title rather misleading

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

I don't think it's misleading at all. And it's the name of the article.

[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 2 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

yep, and it ignores context to go straight to blaming someone. I would've expected better

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago) (1 children)

Did you really expect better from Fox News though? Or any news org?

All of them are about clickbait-rage and cash.

Thanks, amiko!

[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 2 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Fair point, but you could've fixed the title

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio 0 points 11 months ago (1 children)

That's the title of the article. I don't editorialize the titles. Some communities don't allow changing titles of the articles, so I just default to that when I post.

Thanks, amiko!

[–] Boomkop3@reddthat.com 1 points 11 months ago (1 children)

Nah you just repost crap like a good little parrot

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio 0 points 11 months ago* (last edited 11 months ago)

You are correct about me not writing the articles. I just post them.

Thanks, amiko!

[–] sugar_in_your_tea@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 months ago

Everyone? There was a ton of opposition, especially in my area.

We didn't do a full lockdown in any sense of the word, we just shut schools down then ended the school year early, required stores to post social distancing rules (enforcement not required), and reduced maximum capacity of stores. Business carried on as usual, and our state did better than many in both economy and better than most in fatal cases (latter isn't particularly fair due to demographic differences between states).

Distribution to supply chain completely messed up product availability and hence prices, the stimulus packages juiced inflation further, and keeping rates low (not something Biden has control over) further exacerbated the problem. He did all of that to help relieve immediate strain, but as we can see, that was a very short term treatment and just made things worse long term.

Honestly, the best plan was probably to largely do nothing, other than push for a vaccine. A lot of people would get sick, and that's deeply unpopular, but we probably would've gotten through it faster and recovered faster than other countries that took more extreme measures. That's easy to say with hindsight though, but I do think Biden went a bit too far in the "protect people" direction.

I did vote for Biden, and I was disappointed in his and other Democratic governments' responses. Printing money has consequences, and we felt that very acutely.

It’s true though. But to keep the economy stable it would have meant standing aside while Russia took Ukraine. Republicans are exactly the kind of people who like to brag about all the things America has done to help the world while not wanting to those things in the first place.

[–] UniversalMonk@lemmy.radio -1 points 11 months ago

We gotta lot of shit we need to fix here, before we help the rest of the world.
