Theory: An egg hatched on a space platform which was headed for Nauvis, but for some reason the platform remained in orbit. The pentapod sustained itself on spoiled cargo until he got so big that he needed more room. He then decided to try move to that nice planet below, not realizing the extent of the fall.
As someone who never played this game, the image seems to be of a mouldy orange, with the highlighted part being the stem.
I'm probably wrong though.
Haha, it's a planet, but I wouldn't be surprised if the moldy orange visual was intentional from the game developers. This planet's main mechanic is the agriculture of fruits that spoil.

I saw that thing on the in-game icon, I think it was in the technology screen, then I found this high res image on the wiki
Ok, so it's a ridiculous ask, but now more than anything else I want an image of the planet I'm orbiting in the background of each platform.
