Anything But Metric

Americans will use anything but metric

The Rules:

  1. Posts must be a screenshot, crosspost, or link to someone using a bizarre unit of measurement (33 lanes wide, as heavy as 10 semi-trucks, etc.)

  2. Standard units are not allowed, unless it's a sufficiently bizarre usage of the unit (this is up to mod discretion.)

  3. Intentionally terrible units are completely fine! Satire is welcome here

  4. Curses are fine, slurs are not. If there are slurs in something you want to post, please blur them, or reconsider posting.

  5. Flag NSFW content as such. NSFW words in these posts don't need to be censored.

  6. Post titles should be just the unit of measurement used (not the thing being measured!), and should be the full name of the unit (Apples and Bags of Apples imply very different things!) NSFW units should be partially censored. If there are multiple units, list as many as you want. If the source is satire, the title should start with [Satire]

  7. In the comments be civil, both to each other AND the subject of posts.

That’s more than a “typo”.

Typo is short for "typographical error" and while originally just for small spelling mistakes it's use has been expounded to cover autocorrects and completely wrong words. Your phone won't let you type a misspelled word, but hitting the "right" wrong keys can cause completely different words to come up. Because of this people use it for "brain farts" as well, they meant to type one thing something went wrong, and a different word showed up.

It's a typographical error still.

So, you can try to fight language evolving, but it's probably not going to work, even linguistics do t accomplish it when they try.

Thats why "literally" can literally mean figuratively now.

It looks like it's only about a hogshead. I wouldn't call that the size of a small boulder.

What kind of megafauna hogs do you have where you live?

Damn pioneers parking their boulders wherever they please. No respect.

Americans will do anything to avoid the metric system.

How much is that in football fields per square fathom?

I was working near here when this happened and never heard of this. Incredible mistake 😁

But a big small boulder!

No, it doesn't. It's just a simple mistake. LLM would never abbreviate mile marker "mm" without specific instruction to do so.

All cops are idiots.
