Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Cargo pants and belt loop pouches.

As a man, it has been my privilege to wear at least 2 to 5 inventory slots in my pants on a daily basis, with an additional slot coming from my t-shirt on occasion.

As a man, I say just get a small backpack. I have little a military-style one. It's nice.

Holds my wallet, keys, hand sanitizer, napkins, a bottle of water, mints/gum, lotion, sunscreen, lip balm, pen, pencil, deodorant/cologne, comb, lighter, knife, and gun. Everything I need to survive the day. And a tracker tag of course in case it gets lost.

Even pants without a slot if the waist is elastic you can roll it over your item to get a temporary slot.

[–] Garfunkel@lemmy.ca 3 points 5 hours ago

Well if you ever land in jail, remember you ve got another hiding place... Works great to smuggle drugs or buttplugs.

[–] Kellenved@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 hours ago

My current jacket adds 5 more slots to that

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 10 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

couldn't be me. I need to stay hatecrime ready.
so I’m always strapped.

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 7 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

a gun holster probably counts as a single inventory slot

[–] crunchy@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 hours ago

Nah, equipment is its own thing

[–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Why do you stay prepared to commit hatecrimes?

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

Read the otherway. As a minority, I am often the target of hate. Thus I am strapped to defend myself. BIPOC🏳️‍⚧️ shortstack. Getting picked on is my locale’s favorite tradition.

[–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

I guess I should've added a /s lol

[–] alapakala@quokk.au 1 points 1 hour ago

no problem 😆

How am I supposed to pick up random junk to sell to the next cashier I see that way???

[–] Nasan@sopuli.xyz 26 points 16 hours ago

The cashier at Wendy's is absolutely fed up with the things I bring him, but he pays me my pocket change in stride.

[–] Caption_Mo@reddthat.com 8 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

I second that, but one of my wishes is to be able to go out without any bag and with nothing in my pockets. Especially with no ID.

[–] xylol@leminal.space 4 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Why dont you? I do it all the time when we go for a stroll around the neighborhood. Just carry a few poop bags for the dogs

[–] Caption_Mo@reddthat.com 9 points 11 hours ago

I am an "immigrant". The kind that you know by looking at. I haven't been stopped by the police in years, but I'd hate to not have ID on me in case somebody decides they wanna have a power trip or be a man of duty.

By the way, I'm not in the US.

[–] A_Union_of_Kobolds@lemmy.world 31 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I am a slave to cargo/utility pants for this reason

[–] sp3ctr4l@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 hours ago

¿porque no los dos?

[–] rtxn@lemmy.world 17 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

My best purchase of the year was a backpack that can hang off my bicycle's cargo rack. It adds +20 inventory slots, but without the carry weight penalty.

[–] freebee@sh.itjust.works 5 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

I have that too, it's awesome. Incredible how few people I see with those! Super convenient.

[–] BillionaireStew@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (2 children)

wouldn't it get road grime slung all over when the road is wet?

[–] freebee@sh.itjust.works 1 points 18 minutes ago

Not at all. I mostly cycle on city roads, asphalt. And the wheels have these thingies around the wheels, no idea what they're called in English.

[–] grranibal@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

The models I know of are made of an easy-to-clean looking material, so if they get dirty it shouldn’t be a big problem

[–] Ioughttamow@fedia.io 16 points 16 hours ago (2 children)

That’s why I’m always strapped with 7 Fanny packs

[–] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 6 points 14 hours ago

Are you the Mom from the jokes?

[–] NaibofTabr@infosec.pub 6 points 14 hours ago

Were they havin' a sale down at The Gap?

[–] Semi_Hemi_Demigod@lemmy.world 4 points 13 hours ago

A great wizard uses what is at hand.

Like McGuyver.

[–] snoons@lemmy.ca 5 points 16 hours ago

Some places the only people that have bags are drug dealers. Still fits, but yeah.

[–] morto@piefed.social 5 points 16 hours ago

But you can always put stuff into the Augmented-Space Slots

[–] ceenote@lemmy.world 2 points 14 hours ago

It must be nice having cleavage, so you always have a place to put stuff.
