Republicans across the country are not taking their historic midterm beatdown in stride, and according to a recent report from Right Wing Watch, a notably MAGA-linked pastor has taken his despair a step further, calling for "another January 6."

Lorenzo Sewell is the leader of 180 Church, a non-denominational Christian church based in Detroit, and has become increasingly connected with GOP and MAGA politics in the last several years. In 2024, he was a guest speaker at the Republican National Convention, and in 2025, he conducted one of the benedictions at Trump's second-term inauguration. Recently, reports have even suggested that he is considering running for public office himself as a Republican.

Right Wing Watch's report this week also described Sewell as "an ardent stolen election conspiracy theorist whose obsession with exposing alleged voter fraud has become too extreme even for the Trump White House." Now, his rejection of election results that are unflattering to Republicans and the MAGA movement has continued, as during an appearance on the "FlashPoint" podcast after the midterm blue wave, he once again called the elections fraudulent and suggested Trump's followers should rise up against them.

Sewell's argument for why fraud must have taken place in the midterms echoed the common right-wing misconception about elections, often lampooned with the phrase "land doesn't vote." Often, conservatives might share electoral maps of certain states with more counties colored red, and argue that this must be an indication that the state should elect Republicans in state-wide races, despite the fact that Democrats tend to win counties that are more heavily populated, giving them the edge.

They need ANOTHER Peaceful Protest that does NOTHING violent or Illegal?

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 hours ago

Why not? Trump pardoned all of them. This is what he wants. He's going to get violence because he both incited it, and also forgave it with zero consequences.

[–] Octothorpidiot@lemmy.world 29 points 11 hours ago

Doesn't calling for a second just admit the first one WAS an attack.?

[–] MrSelfDestruct@reddthat.com 40 points 14 hours ago (3 children)
[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 52 minutes ago

They won't eat his face.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 15 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

Like many republicans, he's privately revolted by himself.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 hour ago

No, they shut off (or are in some cases just born without) the part of human personality that would do that.

They are shameless.

[–] abigscaryhobo@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

That gives them too much credit and self awareness. They find people revolting who get to live the way they wish that they could. "I'm not like that because I'm not allowed to be because it's "wrong" for some reason, you shouldn't be allowed either"

[–] scathliath@lemmy.dbzer0.com 61 points 17 hours ago (3 children)

So he's using a pulpit to openly advocate for a political revolution-adjacent response? We all oughta be reporting his fucking megachurch for violations of tax exemption requirements.

[–] stormeuh@lemmy.world 25 points 16 hours ago

How about charge him with incitement to insurrection?

Unfortunately the people who would do that are corrupted.

[–] maxthemummer@lemmus.org 7 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

I think you mean "maga" church.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 1 hour ago

Tomato, tomato

[–] SecretiveVault@lemmy.zip 20 points 14 hours ago

That's some traitor shit

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 143 points 20 hours ago (6 children)

That deserves an arrest for incitement.

[–] tacosanonymous@lemmy.blahaj.zone 31 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Immediately remove tax exemption too.

[–] thinkingofyouihaveananxietydisorder@quokk.au 7 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 8 hours ago) (1 children)

church tax exemption needs to fucking end. or churches need to end. try the first. if it's too hard, try the second.

[–] LincolnsDogFido@lemmy.zip -3 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

It's unpopular, but I disagree. Just because people are currently biased against Christianity (for good reason) does not mean tax exemption against places of worship should end. There's still a lot of churches of multiple different faiths that feed the hungry, house the unhoused, and clean the unkempt. Until there's a reliable safety net in place to do that, taxing the good will of congregations that genuinely trust their church more than government (for good reason) to care for those in need is moving backward.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 1 points 27 minutes ago

All of these should be publicly funded social services with accountability for every cent used, not some independent entity with no accountability that uses the needs of our most vulnerable to spread some 2000+ year old fairy tale.

[–] Fmstrat@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

Pretty sure that's tax fraud proof, too.

[–] laurelraven@lemmy.blahaj.zone 34 points 19 hours ago

Exactly what I was thinking

MAGA pastor calls for violence and intolerance. More news at 11.

[–] CedricWhaley@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 14 hours ago

Maybe if he volunteers to play the role of Ashli Babbitt.

[–] habitualcynic@lemmy.world 15 points 16 hours ago

(Looks at thumbnail)

Bro, they want to lynch you

[–] 0ops@piefed.zip 7 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Who can even afford the gas to get to the capital?

[–] SpinItBetter@lemmy.world 1 points 14 minutes ago

It is the capitol. I always remember because the White House has a dome and dome has an o.

[–] Ryanmiller70@lemmy.zip 10 points 15 hours ago

But I thought January 6th wasn't real and was just a bunch of liberal crisis actors making honest hard working Trump supporters look bad?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 29 points 19 hours ago (4 children)

"Apparently unable to understand the concept of population density, Sewell insisted that states like Texas, Michigan, and Ohio are red states and therefore could not have possibly elected Democrats," the report explained.

"Out of 83 counties in Michigan, [Republican gubernatorial candidate] John James won 69 of them," Sewell declared. "Do you know that even [Democratic Senate candidate James] Talarico, he won—watch this—he only won 31 counties? There's over 204 counties in Texas. In [Republican Ohio Senate candidate Jon] Husted and [Democratic Senate candidate Sherrod] Brown, Brown only won 16 counties. There's 88 counties in Ohio."

Another bright bulb from the conservatives....

[–] dan1101@lemmy.world 2 points 42 minutes ago

What they don't understand from the red/blue maps is that land doesn't vote. Show them a population density map.

[–] SayJess@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

This is how conservatives argue: in bad faith. The data is out there, they just choose to discount it wholesale because academia has an inherent liberal (reality based) bias. They project their own corruption onto it, ie, If we ran the numbers, it would reveal the real truth. When they hear these arguments of big number us, small number them, it reinforces their worldview of the “silent majority”, without any sort of context to the data provided that explains how things actually work—that their “big number” actually signifies less people across more landmass (in certain areas of course, this is not universally true).

The truth is out there. They want to believe [alternative facts instead].

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 hour ago

They explicitly do not want their supporters understanding concepts like "per capita."

I wish I was joking, there are people who think "per capita" was made up by liberals to make conservatives look bad.

[–] Archer@lemmy.world 9 points 16 hours ago

The density of the population does indeed affect the density of the population

Excuse me, Lorenzo, or may I call you Tom?

But really, what are you meant to January 6th? Every single government building in the US? What an idiot

[–] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 12 points 19 hours ago

Down to, what, every post office in the country? That's going to take all damn day.

[–] TryingToBeGood@reddthat.com 15 points 17 hours ago

And meanwhile, further up the community, dumbfuck is calling for democrats to be investigated for “making threats.” You can NOT make this stuff up. 🤦‍♀️

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 11 points 17 hours ago

What does he mean? I thought they said it was just a friendly little visit to the capitol.

Are they now admitting what it was?

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago
[–] Steve@startrek.website 7 points 16 hours ago

The black guy in the thumbnail?

Um, does he know?

[–] Lushed_Lungfish@lemmy.ca 6 points 15 hours ago

Ok Uncle Tom.

[–] nerdo@lemmy.zip 6 points 15 hours ago

He’s an insurrectionist

[–] grue@lemmy.world 17 points 19 hours ago

So, felonious terroristic threats, then.

[–] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 18 points 20 hours ago

It really shouldn't surprise me how easy it is to mask mental illness inside a religious context.

[–] madcaesar@lemmy.world 5 points 15 hours ago

Only thing dumber than maga is poc maga...

[–] 13igtyme@startrek.website 16 points 20 hours ago

If MAGA wants to storm the capital and hang the vice president this January I'm okay with it. They should also storm the white house, that will teach those democrats.

[–] PP_BOY_@lemmy.world 16 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Is he asking for more ANTIFA provacateurs to infiltrate a peaceful protest? I honestly havent checked in on the conservative J6 narrative in some time

Wait which is it. His implied Jan 6 or the peaceful demonstration the same people keep claiming Jan 6 was

[–] laurelraven@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 19 hours ago
