She's AIPACS tool. She calls herself a "nonjewish zionist". They hate for no reason whatsoever, based on ethnicity.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 87 points 6 days ago (9 children)

The parties reaction to this will be telling. Anything less than expulsion from the party is unacceptable. Her being the neoliberal establishment pick, even if she was clearly defeated. Makes me wonder if they're just going to try to burn it all down on the way out.

“Congresswoman Stevens is not a current member of the Michigan Democratic Party, nor will she be in the future,” Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel wrote on X Sunday.

Yes, I just read your post down below. Good news is so rare. This is something worth celebrating a little.

The bar is so low that I'm impressed Chuck even condemned it. I hope they at least censure her.

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 23 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Wait, he did? That's low key shocking! As someone who likes working with them, its shocking that he spoke out against supporting them. Low bar indeed, but damn.

The DNC is an unfunded joke. There is an insurgent left wing coming up. This has all the makings of a dem civil war. Schumer and Jefferies are both AIPAC funded. I expect absolute and total shenanigans. Democrats will find a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Wait, she's not Jewish??

I say this as a Jewish anti-zionist: what the actual fuck?? Like... I grew up indoctrinated into zionism and left when I got old enough to start paying attention to news. So... what's her damage?

Maybe this sounds silly, but I have a lot of pity for Jewish liberal zionists. It's a cult. And I'm familiar with Christian Nationalist zionists (also a cult, but different one). I feel sympathy for people operating on childhood brainwashing.

And I kind of get folks like Biden, who probably formed an opinion before '67.

But what's her fucking deal? I can have grace for people who were born into this or are really old, but she just sounds like she learned that Israel is an apartheid state in college and said, 'Neato!'

I am so much more disgusted with her now than I was when I assumed that she was a member of the tribe. ULGH.

So does the republican party have a load of sleeper agents in the democratic party that it activates when needed?

[–] mushroommunk@lemmy.today 26 points 6 days ago

It's not Republicans, it's Israel and it's both parties. Israel is worried because the progressive candidates have a real chance this election and are performing on not spending billions on Israel as well as health and wealth reform.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 19 points 6 days ago

Yes, but also there's plenty of Democrat bigots. A lot of them are "centrist" and/or "moderate."

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 13 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Is the Democratic Party fundamentally a right-wing party?

It is odd seeing someone do political self immolation for no reason at all. I'm starting to think Haley isn't the brightest bulb in the pack.

[–] Pacattack57@lemmy.world 37 points 6 days ago

The reason is obvious. She is falling on the sword to save Israel. The last 2 years may have done irreparable damage to my view on Israel. I don’t think I will ever vote for a candidate who takes aipac money or supports Israel for the rest of my life.

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 13 points 6 days ago

It's either money or blackmail. That's what it is for most of those out there making questionable decisions that go against what is right and good. There is lots of money and lots of blackmail currently floating around right now.

Fetterman 2.0 minus the stroke but double the Israel support.

[–] hypeerror@sh.itjust.works 21 points 6 days ago

At least she's out of office in 3 months. We have Fetterman for 2 more years in PA.

Man, centrist Democrats and leadership showing when the chips are down, there's progressives on the field, they cuddle up with Republicans.

She does Democrat stuff in most of her policies, but she also has large donations from aipac, is converting to Judaism through marriage and she also lost to Abdul in 2019, I think. They never liked each other and she's petty for letting that get in the way of working for the people like Abdul says he will.

[–] MJKee9@lemmy.world 21 points 6 days ago

She's a grifter securing her new grift.

[–] Cruxifux@feddit.nl 10 points 6 days ago (3 children)

Fun fact: you can convert to Judaism without becoming a racist and supporting genocide and selling out your party and ideology.

The state party officials need to expel her from the party. Even if it would only have a symbolic effect they need to make clear that this is unacceptable for anyone who calls themselves a Democrat. If moderates ask progressives to "vote blue no matter who" and then turn around to endorse collaborators then they need to get the boot.

"Senate Democrats are united in our support for Abdul El-Sayed, because we know he will fight for the economic interests of working families in Michigan, unlike Mike Rogers, who is a tool of Donald Trump and billionaire donors," [Chuck Schumer] said.

For once Schumer is 100% right.

[–] whalesnrainbows@lemmy.world 52 points 6 days ago (1 children)

This coming from Schumer is honestly almost as shocking as Stevens choosing to completely burn her bridges with the Democratic Party.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 24 points 6 days ago (2 children)

Schumer says whatever toady thing he needs to to keep his job.

Clearly the person we all knew she was.

[–] SillyMe@piefed.social 26 points 6 days ago

also bodes well for El Seyed being the man we hope he is

[–] lemmygarden@lemmy.today 40 points 6 days ago (12 children)

I don't see any way this is a politically coherent move for her. She just burnt her bridges with Leftist Democrats and corporate Democrats. She doesn't have the look to be a talking head on conservative media. Michigan has early voting and many have already voted. It's not like Republicans will respect her, but they use her for the moment.

I've seen some mentions of her Republican fiance effecting her, but she is a congressmen and has agency and ownership of her own endorsements. I am wondering if her mental stability is all there because I'm confused by her lack of coherency.

[–] andrewrgross@lemmy.today 26 points 6 days ago

Agreed.

Tactically, if she wanted him to lose she should've just stuck to what she was doing, which was supporting him in words while undermining and maintaining plausible deniability. Then if he loses, you can lament that there was just no saving a flawed candidate.

Now if he wins, she's a loser twice over, and if he loses it's a phyric victory: she's the villain who lost Democrats the seat, and instead of proving his politics can't win in a swing state, the story is just that he got stabbed in the back by an ally.

Good on them for taking a stand and following their conscience here. Anyone still working for her should be black listed from future Democrat campaigns and positions.

Can't believe Stevens decided she wanted to go down in history for people to point at when they say some Democrats would rather lose elections than win by having a leftist, anti-Zionist win. Absolutely crazy she just went full mask off there.

[–] inclementimmigrant@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Shocked? I can understand heartbroken but shocked? Really?

Didn't see that coming a million miles away like a lot of us more left leaning and progressives did?

Maybe you guys should find a new profession then if you were shocked because you kind of suck at it.

We need to replace all the liberal democrats in our government with left leaning/DSA.

The people demand a party that will actually represent the working poor in this country, unapologetically, vehemently, with teeth, against corporations.

I thought this felt familiar and now I remember why. In the NYC mayor race, one Democratic candidate, Jessica Ramos, had the endorsement of the Working Families Party, but since she was struggling to gain traction she ended up endorsing Cuomo with the hopes of gaining a role in his potential administration. Everyone was equally shocked then and WFP immediately revoked their endorsement of her.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 18 points 6 days ago (1 children)

She is going to be an AIPAC lobbyist now

Man I wish I lived in MI just so I could have had the opportunity to vote against this nasty little gremlin in the primary.

Tbh she probably sealed the victory for el sayed, a lot of moderate dems were cold on him but stevens endorsement of rogers is so nakedly revolting that they're all gonna line up to vote against rogers even if they don't love the idea of El Sayed.
