On Monday, the office of the Mississippi attorney general, Lynn Fitch, announced that the police shooting of Kohen Wiley, a one-year-old, as he sat in his mother’s lap “was justified”. The statement came four months after the baby was killed in Senatobia, Mississippi.

On 14 June, officers in Senatobia, a small city near Memphis, were responding to a shoplifting call alleging Vellesiya Wiley, the baby’s mother, and Latoya Ferrell, a friend, had stolen a pack of diapers. Neither woman has been charged with a crime. Officials have not released any evidence of shoplifting.

According to police reports, on the day of the shooting, the women and child exited the store, entered their vehicle and began to leave the parking lot when officers arrived.

The police drew their weapons. Wiley lifted the baby up to indicate that there was a child in the car. An officer, identified by other records as Sgt Hunter Foster, fired into the vehicle, killing Kohen Wiley and wounding Ferrell. Foster is white; both Wileys and Ferrell are Black.

They still havent released the body camera footage, even to the family. The families lawyer had an independent analysis done that shows the cop fired through the side windows, not the front, proving they were never in danger. This is the same police station that just had its police chief fired last month because of constant and aggreious racism that he was texting his friends/coworkers.

This is rank of a coverup.

When Mississippi burn? This terrible news. What baby do?!? Need France riot

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago

They tell us that prosecutors, courts, and the police are "separate" entities, but that's a lie. They'll form up together like Voltron to prevent families of people murdered by pigs from ever getting justice.

[–] sportsjorts@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 hour ago

American police and government need to be dismantled and rebuilt. This is fucking sick. This is enough for America to deserve all the bad things that are happening.

Vote like your life depends on it. Vote Dem if you don’t want to see horror unlike you’ve never imagined.

Fuck the administration and as always ACAB.

[–] ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk 12 points 4 hours ago

That's a relief, I'd hate to know that a police officer murdered a literal infant unjustifiably. The depths of the depravity are fathomless.

America is truly a shithole. You don’t hear of such things in other developed countries

[–] gastroglizzy@piefed.social -1 points 4 hours ago (3 children)

Because in China and Russia, it doesn't even make the news.

[–] Archelon@lemmy.world 2 points 36 minutes ago

Well you know what they say about life in authoritarian countries:

Can’t complain.

Russia has never been a developed country.

Don’t make me tap the sign

"As AG I conducted an investigation and concluded the baby was black, therefore the shooting was justified."

Fucking disgusting.

[–] cloudshouter@lemmy.zip 11 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Baby? The “male suspect”.

[–] TigerAce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

"According to the FBI the one year old male suspect was to be growing up as a nazi communist, as they found out by using their predictive AI. In any different situation they would also have shot the baby. In an interview with the officer, he told reporters 'he asked chatgpt whether to shoot the baby', to which it replied 'yes, you should kill the fucking nazi communist', so he did."

Mississippi: the state that never surprises but always shocks and appalls.

[–] yakko@feddit.uk 33 points 12 hours ago

As long as I live, I will support jury nullification for any and every cop killer. Abolish the police, I don't give a shit.

[–] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 11 hours ago

I will donate money to hits taken out on these officers.

How is it ever justifiable to be killed for shoplifting?

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 11 points 9 hours ago

shoplifting diapers even

[–] CmdrShepard49@sh.itjust.works 76 points 14 hours ago

Just an allegation of shoplifting at that.

[–] Naich@piefed.world 8 points 11 hours ago

Things are worth more than people.

Can’t let the poors get one over on ya. They might get ideas.

[–] DrSoap@lemmy.world 23 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

NYPD is essentially Targets personal security force in my area. They check in twice a day, every day. If there is an issue, they're there in 30 seconds. Took them two hours to get a man with a knife out of my building lobby, 3 buildings down for reference.

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 hours ago

Makes perfect sense.

Police exist to protect capital. That simple.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 7 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (1 children)

And at that too my midtown Target keeps basically everything under lock and key. What's the point of even going…

Edit: if we need to keep laundry detergent locked up, we have way bigger problems to solve

[–] YeahToast@aussie.zone 6 points 8 hours ago

we have way bigger problems to solve

Am not American, can confirm you have way bigger problems.

[–] empireOfLove2@lemmy.dbzer0.com 24 points 15 hours ago

Take a look at the baby's skin color, read that it is Mississippi, and fill in the blanks.

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 16 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

Sadly, in my experience the default stance is "if they broke the law, they only have themselves to blame."

[–] Carmakazi@piefed.social 24 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

If comments on bodycam vids are anything to go by, anything more than misdemeanor crimes should be resolved by summary execution, including and especially fleeing from the police. I hope dead internet theory is real in that case.

[–] emptiness@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 9 minutes ago

I doubt even Judge Dredd would have shot this child for just sitting there.

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 8 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Shoplifting a pack of diapers is almost certainly a misdemeanor.

[–] bobbosr2004@piefed.social 2 points 8 hours ago

Depending on your color

[–] CapuccinoCoretto@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

Look at the state and the colour of the baby.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 16 points 11 hours ago (4 children)

I hope Gen Z burns this shithole country to the ground. We need a revolution

[–] 0x0@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

How about you get out of your ass and help instead of waiting for someone else to do all the work?

[–] badgermurphy@lemmy.world 1 points 50 minutes ago

If you're trying to start a revolution, you need all sorts of support and infrastructure. Not every revolutionary can or even should be a warrior.

Consider that some revolutionaries are old, infirmed, or otherwise unsuitable for strenuous physical activity, but can still contribute to their efforts without physically fighting or demonstrating.

For example, Oskar Schindler saved over 1000 Jews from execution as a doughy business magnate, never throwing a single punch or firing a single bullet.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Oh sure, pick the fascist generation.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I don’t think you’re correct

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 hour ago

In Canada at least, they're the biggest conservative supporters, some even didn't hate Americans before Trump.

Canadians aged 55 and older leaned toward the Liberals

Younger Canadians aged 18 to 34, meanwhile, picked the Conservatives.

https://globalnews.ca/news/11153872/canada-election-results-demographics-exit-polls/

Plus they're the generation that gets news from social media

[–] ArmoredThirteen@lemmy.zip 36 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

I hope all the generations finally play their part don't put this all on gen z

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 3 points 9 hours ago

how can this be downvoted?

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago) (2 children)

Unfortunately, a BIG chunk of Gen Z men and boys have fallen prey to far right "influencers" like Andrew Tate and Clavicular, so they can't be counted on to do the right thing about anything.

Us millennials, being in our 30s to 40s, are still young enough to get shit done, though, as are the parts of Gen X that haven't been infected with fascist ideology themselves. And Gen Z women and girls, of course.

[–] Waterpumpee@lemmus.org 7 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

Problem is, we have famillies. Cant go protesting if you got to work & care. Parents are basically slaves to the system. Unless we want to be in such need to, you know steal diapers and get prolly killed.

[–] waltersf@bookwyr.me 1 points 4 hours ago

And so do the French and Spaniards.
Lazy goat.

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 4 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 10 hours ago)

I’m an elder millennial with a young adult Gen z son who is definitely not into that garbage but Gen Z is definitely leading the revolution charge worldwide

[–] borax7385@lemmy.world 9 points 12 hours ago

I bet police is very happy and celebrated after knowing the verdict.
