It should be 100%, since this is so ridiculously obvious.

The guy made billions....so far. There is no fucking way he's prioritizing shit other than self-enrichment and self-aggrandizement.

[–] im_fine_sandy@nord.pub 10 points 3 days ago

He's so unfit for office it hurts to really consider.

Yes it's an incredible injustice that he's harvesting wealth in the course of self enrichment.

However, he's not actually doing the job of being POTUS. He's only interested in big grandiose definitive measures, and isn't capable of getting involved in the nuance of mitigating systemic problems.

The harm being done is incalculable and effects everyone across the globe, not only Americans.

"Trump ruined my life and laughed about it, but Democrats like brown people and the trans."

[–] bunnybunny@lemmy.zip 11 points 3 days ago (3 children)

These Americans are sooop smart figuring this out

Everyone watches, reads, or listens to different information. That creates a mess. Working as intended though. How does a population unify when every individual is on a different page?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Favorite moment was when I asked someone kinda tuned out: "How do you think donnie made billions in just over a year?"

They thought I was bullshitting them.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 3 points 2 days ago

Exactly.

“Who told you that?”

“I’ve never heard it so it must be bullshit.”

“Do better research, Z. If Trump was making billions it would be all over the news.”

What “the news” is, is the ultimate question. Working as intended.

Better late than never. Best not to throw shade on people doing what you want them to do.

[–] hayvan@piefed.world 2 points 3 days ago

Only 45 years late?

When it comes to allegations that he has profited from the presidency, 41% believe President Trump has done something illegal and 18% think his actions have been unethical but not illegal. Another 18% feel he’s done nothing wrong. [The remaining 23% percent is "Don't know"]

In conclusion 59% of Americans are fucking stupid.

Somebody cue the video of Jason Lee saying "isn't that the truth?" from Chasing Amy (after the Star Wars rant).

[–] deeprlyeh@lemmus.org 13 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I can’t imagine how people think anything else. He has no positive publicity, in the 80s and 90s he was constantly getting shit on in interviews.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I blame that fucking game show he was given. I guess before that some rappers thought he had street cred or some shit.

I mean people that were at least marginally aware would know he was a jackass long before. Did anyone reading/watching American Psycho think the protagonist worships donnie for justifiable reasons?

[–] Bonesince1997@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

It's not just his game show, imo. Not to push back on what you said. Really just to say I believe it's much wider and longer than that. I can't say I know the full impact if any, but whenever he was mentioned and displayed personally or mockingly it was always the same, rich guy everyone fawns over.

I might be telling on myself a little here, but I just rewatched an episode (about 30 seconds in) of Saved by the Bell, with a dating game show partly made up of the show's normal cast as the contestants. Screech plays "Donald Chump". He's introduced and he fans a big wad of cash. I suppose it's making fun of Trump, with the name used and maybe how it all played out, but I think the imagery might not convey only mockery. This is just one of many mentions, in many media, about the man over the years. How many people are just name dropped like that over and over?

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, I remember some people in the early 90s all agog that they went to see one of his casinos. They were not old enough to gamble, but just excited to see donnie's Taj Mahal or whatever the fuck.

Even back then, I was like....who cares, that guy sounds like a dickhead and it's a casino? 🤷 But I was raised not to really value people that happen to have money as if they are special.

So many people are operating on Worthington's Law. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbU4VRs2rro

Funny, informative, and introspective. Even learned "some things" about Einstein! Thanks for the link.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

"Now he's about as dumb as Einstein. Way to go, Einstein."

Gets me every time.

[–] ulkesh@piefed.social 5 points 3 days ago

And many of those Americans knew that would be the case the moment the fat fuck came down his shitty escalator. But sadly we were outnumbered by the left side of the bell curve, and the very outmoded electoral college system.

These never heard of or seen it before a Lemmy post news sources are not likely to be read by any substantial number of voters.

The news is so scattered and disparate now. Almost no one is on the same page when it comes to relevant, life and world affecting information.

What’s the last thing we all shared? Tiger King, during lockdown?

Squid Game. Making sourdough bread at home. Oh, White Lotus!

Meanwhile, no Americans are willing to do jack-shit about it.
