If you search for Unreal Tournament on the Epic Games Store, it lists them as "Top Results From Other Stores" and points you to a URL that resolves with: Server Not Found.

If Epic care so little about their own products, why should I?

How tone deaf does one have to be to think that claiming they vibe coded an app is some sort of flex? What a fucking tool shed. Fuck Epic. I didn't want their shit before and this truly solidifies my stance.

Also, is Steam slow for other people? I've had probably zero complaints regarding performance speed. If I really put my mind to it, I could maybe come up with something I don't like, but it would have nothing to do with it's performance.

Underrated comment.

They’re a joke. Always have been.

It really is hard to get behind epic at all. People say "it's just another software launcher, stop being a steam snob"

Ive never liked their work ethics and I don't want support a company that makes fortnite anyway.

This is a good reason to get their weekly free games. It can't be free for them, you're just taking their money.

"Though it does have advanced digital commerce technology such as a shopping cart."

WOAH!

[–] athairmor@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

He must think people will get more than the free games now because he vibes-coded a shopping cart?

Tim is a fucking dishonor to the OG PC gamers...

He's a disgrace to programmers too. Like, the fuck you mean programming is hard? Of course it is! That's the whole fucking job! You get good at it, you learn from your mistakes, and you pass your knowledge on to the next generation.

AI isn't just about eliminating service jobs and low-level positions, it's also about turning senior developers into lazy bums who let their skills atrophy, so they can be devalued, laid off, and paid less at the next place. I even see it at my workplace, people I once respected who now answer every question with "I don't know, I don't remember, have you asked Claude?" No motherfucker, I'm asking YOU.

i see it as mostly trying to rebalance and lower wages. a lot of places are demanding more productivity which doesn't really exist if you want something stable. where i work work life balance was the selling point for the job, now they demand more more more and in office. though i don't think they realize the ones they're calling unproductive are the only ones holding back the flood gate of bugs.

enjoy your services you like and find alternatives if you can. soon all the companies who buy into it are going to have similar uptime as github.

I can't use Epic because of their age verification and poor customer service, so this checks out.

Can't browse the store because games are blocked without age verification. Tried to verify my age and the service they use kept returning an error. Reached out to support and got a chat bot that tried to tell me I needed to clear my browser cache for it to work. Obviously made no difference because it's the third party website that's broken. Had to argue with it for five minutes until I started swearing at it for it to connect me to a human. The human emailed me and it was incomprehensible broken English, they clearly didn't understand what I was trying to say to them so I just gave up and said "guess I'm never using epic again."

Despite being over 30 and having multiple 18+ games btw

Dude. Epic store isn't even new anymore. Why the hell does it still suck ass and is basically the same? It took steam like, MAAAYYYYBE three or four years to be a really good storefront, and they had to pioneer it. What even is Epic's fucking problem?

Edit: 15 years. Epic came onto the scene 15 years after valve debuted Steam. Epic has literally zero excuse and zero pity. Pathetic.

[–] TheSambassador@lemmy.world 2 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

Lol it took Steam MUCH longer to become what it is today. You probably have no idea how many features for EVERYONE who uses the platform they've rolled out over the years. They've made unpopular changes and learned from them.

I'm generally pretty pro steam but it is a lot of work. Still not much of an excuse for a company like Epic but I also don't think it's as trivial as many here seem to

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

I have been on steam from the beginning (2003). I'm still an slower adopter compared to a lot of my friends from that time because I didn't like always on drm (i still don't). I'm well aware of the entire story of the nuanced relationship valve has with its playerbase, as well as its influence on gaming, commerce, and society as a whole. I was there, gandalf.

A LOT of people hated steam, and still do. And are very entitled to their opinions.

A lot of people also suckle the tit of grandfather gaben. And they are also entitled to their opinions.

I definitely fall somewhere in the middle. But I still hold the opinion that it only took a few years at most for steam to be accepted and its offerings to be seen as positive, with an asterisk - exactly how a lot of us older folk still feel about it. And it's that positivity that I refer to: acceptably good enough, as long as certain stances and integrities were/are held, it would/will continue to be the cautiously chosen platform.

But my point primarily refers to that, by the time epic store started, all they had to do was understand what valve was doing and why, and not stray from that. Yet, so many years have passed, and shockingly little progress has been made.

Whereas valve, as slow as they are, are still light-years faster and actually innovate.

Epic just has their widdle thumbs up their widdle bum and complain that gamers don't like them. When in reality, it's just that their storefront sucks ass, always has, and for some bizarre reason STILL sucks. I give them all the chance in the world, yet it's like... Zero effort on their part. So it's less about "steam used to be hated and took a long time to get to now" (duh), and more about "holy fuck, epic, just put a MODICUM OF EFFORT in to have it not suck just as bad as it did on day one"

[–] boonhet@lemmy.zip 2 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

It took Steam more like a decade till people didn't hate it tbh. Does nobody remember the steam logo anal gif? Steam was forced on anyone who wanted to play HL2 and nobody liked it.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 21 hours ago

The whatnow steam logo???

Most people hated steam at first, for sure. But that didn't really last that long. Maybe a couple years, definitely not ten.

[–] Kazel@feddit.org 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Vive coding a shopping cart totally sounds like Epic and Sweeney

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 1 day ago

What it sounds like is a liability...
