Yeah, I got a smidge of cash in my pocket right now, absolutely going to pay for a year of it and re-sign up today. I used to have it, it's such a great service! Love Nebula!

Enjoyed this episode, she’s been a long time favorite nerd YouTuber for me, it was nice to have just a weird little vacation from deep science and math. I hadn’t noticed everyone got these same questions, shows how aware I am.

Ive been to trader joes no more than four times in my life. As soon as she said it, the light bulb went off, "yeah they did say that to me and it felt wierd!?"

Ive watched some more of her content this morning. Her work has given me the push to get Nebula again. It's all very good, I really appreicate her honest candor, it makes me chuckle

My reaction has been “man, they’re just as awkward as me!”.. I should have realized as the percentage of super awkward conversations stayed at 100% over the last few years.

The amount of times I say "it's fine" to myself because of her 😄

I watched the LotR episode this morning, and paraphrased a quote to my husband already,

"Get me one and a half mimosas in, and we can talk about the women of lord of the rings, but right now, it's fine, it's totally fine we dont have to dicuss it" haha

It’s actually taken my view of my wife saying it all the time from thinking of it as passive aggressive to just a tick. She has helped my marriage. I find her misanthropic style endearing.

All the employee handbook stuff about the customer profile is pretty telling.

"From extensive surveys, we know a lot about our customers and why they shop at Trader Joe's. They are not necessarily affluent or rich, but they are generally well educated. In fact, 80% of our customers either have attended college, graduated from college, or have post-graduate degrees. Remember this when you speak to them. When the TV networks bemoan the fact that their viewership is declining, they're talking about Trader Joe's customers. Our target customer is intelligent and well-educated. These are common denominators. Our customers are people who are interested in new things and new ideas. They are in an inquisitive lot. They read the New Yorker, not People magazine. They travel. We have to keep them interested and challenged. To do this, we have to run a fashion food business."

This describes basically zero customers I know who shop at Trader Joe's.

However, I would absolutely believe that this describes their aspirations. This is how Trader Joe's customers want to think about themselves.

And if you're a national grocery chain, and you don't mind your wage slaves getting a bit of brainwashing to serve your clientele ("̆'§ †ïmê †ð §hïñê!"), teaching how to heartlessly blow smoke up somebody's ass is a lot easier and more consistent than fostering genuine interpersonal skills. Besides, they might use those to form a union.

Well.... Never thought I'd watch an hour long video about a shop I've never been to in a country I don't live in but.... Here we find ourselves.

She's fantastic.

Using positive reinforcement by affirming purchases as a sales tactic. Annoying, insulting and weird AF.
