I had a recent train of thought like this not long ago when Talarico affirmed MAGA talking points about trans athletes in women's sports.

The number of trans athletes active in the US is about ten. The number of sports injuries involving trans athletes is less than that.

Bit this raises a question about the safety of women's sports, or all sports, for that matter. Injuries are ubiquitous in sports, all cis-on-cis, with exceptions fewer than a rounding error.

And then that raises the concern of full-contact gridiron football, which is a TBI machine from varsity, through college, to professional. If we're worried about sports injuries, do we stop caring when it might cut into billionaire profits?

I'm still sore with Talarico about it, but I'm not in Texas.

Empathy is the greatest sign of strength.

So everyone knows who’s downvoting this:

[–] zxqwas@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I downvoted because this is the mother of all strawman posts.

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 1 points 1 day ago

It’s no less true.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah! Everyone who doesn't love lowest common denominator walls of text in their meme comm needs to be named and shamed!

[–] Pratai@piefed.ca 3 points 1 day ago

If this is a wall of text you you…

Oh man, this should be a feature on every forum. 👍

[–] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Is there a tool to find this that you can share?

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com -5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I downvoted for the unchallenged islamophobia. Typical lib shit.

Great job! I noticed recently a lot of weird downvotes

Considering subsidies and tax brakes, conservatives are the biggest free loaders.

[–] timeghost@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Trying to have a conversation with someone who thinks words are a competition. Trying to shake hands with someone who tries to arm wrestle you.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think you would struggle to find a conservative that hates Muslim people because of what someone did in Orlando or hates gay people because they are pedophiles. They hate them because they were told to by right wing media, that's it. Pretending there's some logic behind it is pure fantasy.

[–] wolframhydroxide@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Except that the ones who have at least two brain cells present their hate under the color of reason, and this is what the rest of them parrot.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Except that the ones who have at least two brain cells present

Yes, and there are dozens of them. Dozens!

But seriously, I'm yet to see a right-wing influencer that pretends to reason. It's all racist dog whistles because their viewers would not understand anything else.

A lot of homeless people can't work. But, for those who can, it's hard to find a job when you haven't been able to shower for a week, have no money to purchase nice clothing for interviews (let alone no where to keep these nice clothes), and don't have an address which is often needed to secure either a job or benefits.

I have been homeless this year, and was lucky enough to get into a housing program. But my finances are still fucked, and I can't work because of serious mental and physical disabilities. It's a trap that is so difficult to get out of, and I'm very worried that I'll be homeless again in a few years.

Imagine the toll this takes on a person, then add that this population is hated, derided, and repeatedly victimized by both the general population and the government/police. Imagine struggling with mental issues, and having all that you've managed to collect stolen from you every other week. Imagine having physical disabilities and being unable to run away from assaults. Imagine all of the above with the additional burdens of being a woman, a POC, and/or LGBTQ+.

Now think about how rough the job market is for people who have stable housing, and who meet the qualifications of a job, and for those who wouldn't be a "DEI" hire in the age of "anti-woke".

Empathy isn't a weakness, it literally only means that you understand someone else's plot in life. Being able to understand situations like or unlike your own is a strength, and it's necessary to promote societal change. And that is exactly why conservatives hate it

[–] DioramaOfShit@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Wait it ended to soon. Does that mean they like jobs?

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Through this rhetoric they also conveniently make people forget about homeless refugees, immigrant women, lesbians, and the mukhannathun.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago (2 children)

To preface, I agree 100%

But a paragraph of text strawmen isn't really a meme :/

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

... dude... look around... there is no such thing as a meme. Everyone is just doing what ever.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If memes are a spook, why have politicalmemes comm?

[–] Daft_ish@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Uhhhhhhhhh politics bastardize every single good thing in this world?

[–] Godric@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago

So I see! We had a good thing going, memes, mixed it with politics, had a great thing, and now OP is just wall of text posting. My gawd, we were so close to greatness, we flew too close to the sun

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Sigh. What is a meme then? Please define it.

Wait, I’ll do it.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_meme

It’s a common misconception that a meme needs to include an image or be funny. It doesn’t.

Edit: I will also add this - criticizing people for posting content on Lemmy is shitty. We don’t have enough content. If you don’t like what I post, just move on. Or go post your own stuff.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world -4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

This isn't an academic paper, congrats for meeting the letter of the definition while ignoring the spirit. You really should put the barest amount of effort into a joke of some kind, do you think we're all here to read a paragraph of screed? Posting better, not just posting more, makes Lemmy a better place.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Then go post better instead of wasting your time being a dick.

[–] Godric@lemmy.world -2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I have! But they're buried under walls of text circlejerking about how smart we all are pwning strawman, you might have trouble finding them ;)

[–] Sidhean@piefed.social 0 points 1 day ago

They're probably buried under your crummy personality :(

[–] technocrit@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (2 children)

Libs still not giving a fuck about muslims.

[–] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 23 hours ago)

Your identity as Muslim does not affect whether I give a fuck about you. I want everyone to have life, health, dignity, and personhood. I don't care what their religion is.

And sure, I disagree with some Muslims who are authoritarian, or violent, or misogynistic. I also disagree with Christians who are authoritarian, or violent, or misogynistic. It's the authoritarianism, the violence, and the misogyny that I take issue with.

[–] Simulation6@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

Muslim is a religious designation. People who don't believe in any gods and think religions inevitably become corrupt are not going to care all that much.

[–] Burn_The_Right@lemmy.today 9 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

It's almost like conservatives are truly, deeply evil and building concentration camps to kill vulnerable people is completely on-brand for them.

[–] Anachu@leminal.space 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

true but also maybe a little goomba fallacy

[–] A_norny_mousse@piefed.social 35 points 2 days ago

TBF (should we be fair to them? They aren't fair to us) this is a patchwork, not a single conversation, but all individual statements could've come from just one person.

The point is - at least that's how I see it - all social posturing from fascists is just that. They don't care about other people, or people as a whole. What they really want is perfectly divided in and out groups, with them being in the in group. Freedoms and advantages that only apply to them and repression that only applies to the out group.

It's hard to be a rapist, murderer, pillager, colonizer society and have a heart and humanity. It's one or the other, basically, but being a monster (and influencing the cattle to become predators) can be very profitable!

[–] Purplegengar25@lemmy.cafe 3 points 2 days ago

Why so true.
