Are the Albertans that fucking stupid? There should be an exchange between Canada and the USA. The fucknut Albertans can move to any US Red Oblast and the Blue voters from the same US Red Oblasts can move to Alberta.

Albertans? It's a small group of morons. Don't paint the whole province with your ignorance.
It's thirty percent favoring secession in the last poll I saw, and Canada has terrible voter turnout. It could easily pass.
I'm not sure what percentage favor annexation by the US, I know Smith or Poilievre would jump at the chance to be Governor of Canada, but the conservative parties seem to split pretty hard on that.
There could plausibly be a majority of voters to start trying to secede, but not to go for annexation by the US. But if they do secede, they'll just get annexed, it's not up to the voters at that point.
Maybe we can trade ya for idaho, and it's kind of a wash?
Idaho? Long-time home of far right militants and they historically have had training grounds and compounds there. I don’t think you want that.
Oh, sorry, USian here. I meant getting rid of idaho!
Ah, gotcha.
Past the cascades weed is seen as illegal.
There's a strip of loonies, crazies, and idiots that runs south from the north pole down through Alberta then through Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Utah, and Arizona and then peters out in the ocean around Baja Ca.
Complete fucking lunatics by most sane standards. Puppy shooters. Goddists. (goddists aplenty I tell you - there are some weird ones.
"want to be free"...? of what? having a nice country to live in? Having shit to do that pays the bills? What the fuck? Tell me, what is the carrot they're dangling that says "take Alberta away from the people and give it to the corporations".
Seriously? What the actual fuck is the matter with you people ? Too much moose juice?
Having your government side with fascists is not a good idea.
There's no way this can be right.
Not to perpetuate the perception that leftists constantly argue about everything..... But I think the strip of lunatics tends to take a hard right toward the gulf coast once it reaches Missouri.
“want to be free”…? of what?
Its just about wanting lower taxes, that's it.
They are of the belief that if only they didn't pay taxes they would be ultra rich. Many are millionaires and survive on government handouts but somehow think they'd do better with no taxes paying for services and no regulation Their leader is a guy who makes all his money by ripping off governments by administration of government trusts.
As an American it was always somewhat puzzling to understand the deeper drivers of cultural differences between the Canadian provinces having never been anywhere but BC and briefly, but the book "On Oil" is a great recent history of the spread of oil culture and money in Alberta, the Texas influences and ties there and helps frame why so much money and media influence is being welded against Canadian values and democracy right now.
It's short and incredibly informative. https://www.biblioasis.com/shop/new-releases/on-oil/
I oppose Alberta separatism primarily because of the border gore it would create. Like yeah sure there are plenty of other reasons why it would suck, but the Canada-US border is pretty stupid as it is and this would make it 1000x worse.
It would be so funny if Alberta successfully exited Canada to lose all of those Canadian perks, like nationalized healthcare. Welcome to the free market baby.
The face Americans make at them after Albertans get a 100K hospital bill after losing socialized medicine:

Jokes on you, Alberta already gutted their health care!
It is however literally impossible to have happen, Alberta is not their land, it is treaty 6 land.
Mhm. Right. A paper contract that's only valid with Canada. The reason FN are not in favour of secession/US control, is because they'd almost definitely lose any treaty-like claims and privileges. Those treaties are only good so long as Canada maintains control over the area. If Alberta, with the backing of the USA, declares that land not part of Canada, what do you imagine is going to happen -- outside of a strongly worded letter of protest and some thoughts and prayers on facebook? Canada can't realistically retain that region by force, especially if the people of Alberta are against it. FN would not be able to stand up to, nor 'negotiate' with the USA's more authoritarian / fascist regime.
At best, you'll get something like what happened to the Mohawks after the various wars for independence were settled, and the states basically kicked em out for having sided with the brits. FN might be given an opportunity to resettle into other parts of Canada as essentially refugees.
And you are completely wrong about that, the first Nations of Alberta have voted to self-govern, and have been in the process of moving forward doing so for the past couple years.
Self governing doesn't mean they're independent / sovereign. I don't see how your comment changes anything about what I'd noted, honestly.
Its like saying "The Palestinians have voted, and Israel will now stop bombing them". Or claiming that the Palestinians are sovereign/independent just because they voted and declared themselves a nation / tried to get into the UN. The cold reality is that if they lack the power to enforce that vote / declaration, it's fairly meaningless.
Another example would be things like the Trump administration's war crimes. The world voted / generally agreed that certain actions were war crimes, and that there should be repercussions should anyone commit them. The US commits them daily, and is not accountable for their actions, because no one has the power to enforce those declarations against the US. But you think a FN vote will beat them. "OK, sure, whatever".
The boot represents inequality and $700 monthly insurance plans that cover 30% of healthcare needs.
And Albertans think the US would give two shits what Alberta wants over remaining in Canada? 😂
Ah, not to worry. I predict the current referendum vote is to go 40% / 30% / 30% for 'No further referendum' / 'Referendum to go' / 'referendum to stay' respectively, which our premier will say 'Oh, looks like 60% of folks want some form of further referendum', so they can drag this out for another few years while we all grow even more furious about it. Then they'll have another referendum and then finally find out that the majority of people would actually rather stay in Canada, or, more likely, further manoeuvring to keep the whole thing dragging out for all time - more time for the UPC to use our own money to feed us lies and propaganda.
It seems like the perfect issue to keep us all angry and give her leverage to get gifts and hall passes from the feds. I think the main threats to her are the separatists inside her party ousting her, or another provincial conservative party popping up to split the vote. I don't think either are putting her at significant risk though.
I will continue to hope otherwise.
Considering the ballot questions are public and binary (yes/no), I'd be pretty fucking shocked to see a result that included the completely fictitious 3-way option you describe.
Let me guess. Lot of redneck cousin fuckers in Alberta?
I've heard it described as the Texas of Canada, so... Texas may not be know for cousin fucking, but we sure as shit have dipshit rednecks coming out of our ears.
