Alcohol. I cannot abide the taste (or aftereffects) of alcoholic drinks, that shit ruins everything

[–] Shaye@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 50 minutes ago (1 children)

Vodka. It tastes like paint thinner. People say they like it and it must be popular because it sells frequently. But then why do people wince after drinking it?!

[–] polle@feddit.org 1 points 44 minutes ago

If you didn't drink alcohol for multiple years. They all mostly smell and taste like isopropyl or paint thinner. Its kinda funny. Especially wine.

Beer.

Sincerely, a German.

[–] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 2 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

I've always thought the same, then after looking up if there's a gene that makes horseradish taste like medicinal ass I found out there is and guess what it also does for alcohol.

[–] NABDad@lemmy.world 1 points 26 minutes ago

I hate the taste of beer, but I love horseradish.

I'm so confused.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 2 points 2 hours ago

Bitter ales, jager

Kind of want to do a circle of those in "irish car bomb" format now

[–] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Matcha and / or bubble tea. Can't stand the stuff.

[–] gilokee@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Matcha is so bitter, like drinking dirt. I do like fruity bubble tea though.

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 hours ago

Itt people haven't had good versions of those things

[–] MIDItheKID@lemmy.world 15 points 8 hours ago (4 children)

I see like 50 mentions and alcohol and energy drinks. I got something different.

Kombucha.

Holy shit, it's like a soda that went off, and I don't even like soda. It is pungent and awful and I hate that it's marketed so well. Any time I see it on a shelf I'm like "Ooh, what's this fancy looking juice? That's a nice looking bottle. Oh, it's Kombucha, I would rather drink a cup of foamy dog vomit"

[–] Rachelhazideas@lemmy.world 1 points 53 minutes ago

If you like yogurt it's not that different. Both are 'off' and it's just the cultural context that you grow up in that teaches which one is acceptable.

[–] Raiderkev@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

I worked at a natural grocery store in college. I was totally with OP at first, but many a free sample got me into it. If you drink enough of it, you start to enjoy it, much like beer or wine, it's an acquired taste. There was a time where I was drinking 1/day. Now since I'm not around it all the time, I'll get it once every few months, but I still enjoy it very much.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 5 hours ago* (last edited 5 hours ago)

its like soda-lite, if people want probiotics, get in pill form more effective.

Kombucha was what she was reacting to.

[–] baeb66@lemmy.today 14 points 9 hours ago (2 children)

Red Bull tastes like ass. I never understood how it became the most popular energy drink.

Red Bull is marketed as a drug, not as a beverage.

Nobody discusses the scent of cocaine.

[–] insanemantis@lemmy.world 3 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

Shit literally tastes like medicine soda. If I wanted medicine soda I'd just drink some of that weirdass Fentiman's curiosity cola

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 12 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (3 children)

Definitely coffee. I know it's super popular but I can't stand it. I kinda like the smell of it, but the taste I find awful and the aftereffects are excruciating and longlasting. Someone suggested I might have an allergy. I might or might not look further into this at some point

I have tried decaf though, once... chasing the hope that it would still -despite the absence of caffeine- trigger bowel movement at a critical time in my life. and it did! Apparently caused by gastrine, from my superficial reading.

[–] Kissaki@feddit.org 2 points 2 hours ago

I think there was something like you need four experiences to normalize what you don't like. Be it food on kids or coffee or whatnot.

Personally, I don't like coffee either, but for me that includes the smell.

[–] Noel_Skum@sh.itjust.works 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

I hated tea and coffee (apart from the smell) until my early thirties… now I drink gallons of both. Turns out I hated the “additives”. Black tea (maybe with a slice of lemon) and black coffee I really enjoy.

Also the smell of Redbull (taurine?) used to make me feel sick but now I can drink it. Weird.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 1 points 1 hour ago

Aha, I can certainly relate to liking black tea over flavoured tea. I still have a bag of BOP from a trip in Kerala 15 years ago. It's lost a bit of its flavour since then..., I should make plans for renewing the stock.

What's pretty good too is cola nut. It's very common in Madagascar and I was able to buy some.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 4 points 8 hours ago (2 children)

Oh man, I absolutely adore coffee, it’s one of my all time favorite things. It like happy in a glass. But I’m getting old, and I can’t deal with the caffeine like when I was a kid, and decaf is just ruined coffee (not sure if it’s the process or the missing caffeine flavor, but I’ve never tasted a decaf I like).

But the unaltered stuff, I even much plain beans every now and again. Then again, I’ve never bought a can of coffee, my entire life I’ve only drank beans I ground myself, sometimes at the store, but it’s always started as a whole bean.

Not suggesting you try it, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Frankly I’m glad because it leaves more for me :)

[–] SCmSTR@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

Most coffee tastes like burnt vegetable farts. I think it's the process and that to get the most caffeine out, you have to over-roast it or something so that it's the most porous. Or they do that so that it's fast. I dunno. Vita coffee has a decent decaf with the orange label. Not great, just decent. I had to grind it finer than other coffees and pull slower shots.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 5 hours ago

freshly made is always better than stuff you buy in a bottle pre-made, pre made it overprocessed.

[–] billwashere@lemmy.world 7 points 8 hours ago (1 children)

Kombucha. Man that shit is nasty.

[–] toiletobserver@lemmy.world 1 points 5 hours ago

I've has some good stuff. Many flavors to choose from.

[–] OryxAndCake@slrpnk.net 15 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago) (1 children)

Champagne. It tastes of bitter, sour and fizz and because of its stupidly intense carbonation, drinking it needs to be done in tiny little wincing sips, lest it bubble up through your sinuses and come out of your nose.

I swear people only pretend to like champage because they believe it's the drink for 'classy' celebrations, so disliking champagne is, in their mind, a 'low class' and ungrateful thing to do.

[–] axx@slrpnk.net 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

I'll echo something others have said in reaction to other drinks, but it sounds like you've not had good champagne then.

[–] OryxAndCake@slrpnk.net 1 points 2 hours ago

What does 'good champagne' taste like to you?

FFS hops are a preservative that make beer taste terrible. Why would anyone want an extra hoppy beer.

[–] 4grams@awful.systems 2 points 8 hours ago

I quit drinking many years ago. I liked beer, but I would have said that it didn’t taste that great, even the best ones were at best…interesting . Once I quit though, I think it must be the alcohol flavor or something because I have found I really like stuff like hop water. Nice and fruity and bitter (in a good kind of way), it’s just lovely.

[–] Psythik@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago) (2 children)

I've been drinking beer for nearly 20 years, and I agree. The only time it tastes good is when I'm craving alcohol. I would never drink it casually for the taste. And given that I'm a Millennial, I've tried pretty much every variety of beer in existence. They're all bad.

Deviled eggs. Every woman i know fawns over them and scarfs them down the second they can but its literally all of the worst foods plopped into an egg (the egg is fine, i guess)

That being said, i love the taste of medicine and look for things people complain tastes like cough syrup or nyquil

[–] captain_aggravated@sh.itjust.works 6 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

Point of order: Deviled eggs aren't a drink.

[–] Funkt4st1c@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago

I shall commit ritualistic suicide in shame.

Counterpoint, people eat them like a drink

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 5 hours ago

and the eggs seems to pricey, its not my cup of tea.

[–] The_v@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

I might have missed it but did nobody mention Raki?

Anise seed flavored...gag....
