Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.

Evil that “It’s a trap” only works with Star Trek.

[–] lauha@lemmy.world 70 points 4 days ago

They had to show their bias somehow ;)

[–] Mouselemming@sh.itjust.works 19 points 4 days ago (1 children)

But "It's a wrap!" is a perfectly valid answer for filming either.

[–] Uncle_Ben@fedinsfw.app 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Yes, but "it's a trap!" is a star wars reference

I doubt I would have ever figured "leased" as something being "let out, in a way".

I feel like in 2074 we're still going to be circulating this exact image

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

With more artefacting of course.

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

nah it'll be AI upscaled and the grid won't even line up

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 41 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The real, most trolling cruelty here is that if you say "Star Wars" you can't have "It's a trap!"

And Star Trek fans will have to endure a Star Wars meme staining their choice.

[–] daychilde@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Maybe that one is from Spaceballs, which is just the woist. :)

I think they reused the gimmick because I definitely remember this from a few days ago

Does it still work if you enter 'Babylon5'?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 50 points 4 days ago (4 children)

Yesterday in which year? This is ancient.

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 39 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No idea. It was my first time seeing it, so I just thought it was neat and wanted to share.

It's from the February 6, 2022 New York Times crossword puzzle.

Seems they spelled "Stargate" incorrectly. 😞

I make the argument that Star Wars is not science fiction, rather a fantasy that takes place in space. Science and technology do not drive the stories, nor are they the solutions to the problems that arise. They are incidental and could just as well be replaced with actual magic. They tried to go the other way by explaining the force with midiclorians... Which was accepted by basically no one.

That's kind of trolling both fanbases at the same time.

How do crossword writers make those perfect square crosswords with every letter in two words, after you fill in enough words how do you not get to a point where there are no words that fit

[–] calcopiritus@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

I imagine they just play 1-person scrabble with infinite pieces. Then they put the descriptions afterwards.

[–] Hawanja@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Obviously Stark Trek is the real answer.

[–] peetabix@sh.itjust.works 11 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I'd always classed Star Wars as science fantasy.

[–] Obi@sopuli.xyz 8 points 3 days ago

Space opera.

[–] zarkanian@sh.itjust.works 3 points 3 days ago

Hate to break it to you...but so is Star Trek. Instead of the Force, it's psionics (Vulcans), telepathy (Betazeds), and "things that science can't explain yet" (Q, all of the god-tier aliens that Kirk had to deal with). A lot of times, there is no explanation for why an alien can do magic other than they're an alien.

Yesterday puzzmo.com did it with "what colour was the dress". You could either answer blue or gold and it fit. But it wasn't as good as this one. And I don't think You can access archived crosswords on puzzmo.

Edit: It was today, so You can still access it for a couple of hours.

They both started good but got progressively worse with each revival until J. J. Abrams destroyed them both.

I'll always be more of a Star Wars fan, though, since I grew up in a time when Star Wars was still good but Star Trek was already going down the toilet.

I know you're not calling TNG and DS9 "circling the drain".
