Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
- Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated. This is an LGBTQ+-friendly community -- if that is a problem for you, you should leave.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudoin Windows. - No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
- Don't come looking for advice, this is not the right community.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves / tolerates / hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
5. π¬π§ Language/ΡΠ·ΡΠΊ/Sprache
- This is primarily an English-speaking community. π¬π§π¦πΊπΊπΈ
- Comments written in other languages are allowed.
- The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
- Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
6. (NEW!) Regarding public figures
We all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations. - Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
- We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
- Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed. Β
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.
I have a decidated, dirty windows 10 laptop for all my windows needs.
"What windows needs do you have?"
CompTIA won't let you take certs on Linux lol. Trust me, I tried. My professor was a fat, angry, scottish guy who also hates windows and took my side, but nothing we did made that shit work.
...and also yeah, online gaming. Fuck anticheat software.
Wine Is Not an Emulator
Omg is it a recursive acronym :o
Wait till I tell you what gnu means
gonna nut unggghhhhhh
No amount of alcohol is safe to drink, and this is why.
What do you mean when you used the word safe? Genuinely curious, not just being a dick
No level of alcohol consumption is safe for our health
To identify a βsafeβ level of alcohol consumption, valid scientific evidence would need to demonstrate that at and below a certain level, there is no risk of illness or injury associated with alcohol consumption. The new WHO statement clarifies: currently available evidence cannot indicate the existence of a threshold at which the carcinogenic effects of alcohol βswitch onβ and start to manifest in the human body.
Oh that. Bloody useless as I understand it.
Apparently according to something I also read the amount of carcinogen you are exposed to on a 18 minute walk next to a low but noticeable traffic (I remember it saying 20ish cars per minute) is orders of magnitude stronger in regards to cancer causing factors in daily life.
I'm not 100% certain about equating carcinogenic effects to causing cancer but I don't know any other reason to talk about carcinogens.
Sorry to bother you, this was all a nothing burger. Sorry I asked and wasted your time, and mine too
Nonsense.
This was before climate change. Nowadays the glasses are hot.
We already have tux. Wine just makes us fancier.
Wine is to be drank, not to pour on your computer!
If it runs windows it can be understandable to throw stuff at it in disgust.
what about using it in water cooling instead of water
Old latin wise people used to say "in vino veritas", the truth is in the wine... and so it is likely to harm crypto and security... if we accept mythology as a reliable source...
But does that make me immune to AI hallucinations also then?
no, you need to make the AI drink enough wine so it doesn't hallucinate ; and it is a truth know since antiquity: if you drawn the datacenters electronic components into wine, there are no more AI hallucination... try it!
Ahh, that's how we enter The Matrix!
Dear... you make the internet a better place :)
I miss the 2000s...
Well, at least the dedicated fun videos.
holy shit i've seen this a decade (or more?) ago!
I hadn't, but I love it!
Those glasses do be pretty cool
I never found Wikipedia vandalism to be funny.
This seems to be from a dedicated joke wiki not wikipedia. Mediawiki is a software anyone can set up.
Doesn't have to be vandalism, you can edit the site with Developer Tools and take a screenshot...
Probably never found any friends either
I mean I get you, but it does need to be totally open for editting, and that's what the history and discussion pages are for--to add some hive mind filtering.
It bothers me when wiki becomes seen as gospel by those that may not have history on something, and so it needs a method of alteration. Sure that will be abused, but then it gets rolled back.
