And yet a few days ago the brutal terrorism courts that killed people for owning books were dismantled and all previous decisions nullified. And yet the Kurds and Turkey are no longer viciously fighting each other.

I'm not going to say the theocratic and sexist new government is good, but it's sure as fuck better than Assad.

They're setting the streets on fire as we speak, while the jihadi "security forces" open fire on protesters. And they're Sunni protesters, FFS.

Only news I can find about protests is over fuel prices.

EDIT: There was some news about a protest ending in deaths following a Kurdish soldier being captured and killed by members of Baqara recently. Of course this idiot I'm conversing with couldn't be bothered to think of such a counterpoint.

Kinda ironic, since the decade+ civil war was all over securing a pipeline to Europe, same as Ukraine. Any objective historians of the future will see these as the Pipeline Wars.

I was so fuckin worried that Syria was about to regress since it was slow progress to establish a newer fairer government, but they just abolished the Assad-era terrorism courts and nullified all previous rulings so things are looking up. It almost seems like, of all things, even the Kurds and Turkey are getting along (or at least not killing each other), as bizarre as that is.

Looks like Russia and China being preoccupied with Ukraine and Iran has had some beneficial effects.

Russia, Iran, Turkey, Jordan, Israel, UK, and would you believe it, even the USA are fighting in Syria. Many more nations are supplying money and arms .

600K dead, at least, almost 10x the casualties of Israel v. Palestine (80K) and heavy international military involvement, for 15 years or so.

Russia v. Ukraine is now over 2 million casualties.

US has a finger in every pie, so It's not all bad news, gentle reader! Boeing's revenue is up 2 billion, that's nice.

The casualties in Israel are probably much, much higher than 80k.
