If I own a toxic waste dump site, am I allowed to name it the Trump Dump? I'm not using the name from his "Brand," but I'm naming it after a US president. Or is his side hustle going to send me a cease and desist letter?
Regardless of the legality of it, he's 100% going to take you to court and try to bury you in legal fees. One of the few things dude can actually manage to do is weaponize the legal system.

It's fine to run out I think. When someone talks about the Shell or BP heatwave and someone else needs ask which one, it gets the point across even more that these companies are responsible.

We used to. Remember the Exxon Valdez oil spill? The BP oil disaster in the gulf.
Those weren't climate events. Those were directly tied to the company.

You'd think so, but the grandparent argues that it would be more accurate for Europeans to blame European Shell and BP for their heatwaves, rather than American Chevron.
Do they not understand that greenhouse gas emissions spread out through the entire atmosphere?
We could name all extreme weather events after them. Hurricane Exxon, Cyclone Aramco, Storm BP.
We did this on Mastodon! Met office or something put out a form to submit names for a storm or summat and someone recommended suggesting names like Aramco and BP and a bunch of us did it. I don't know if it got traction elsewhere, I live under a rock.

Problem is singling any one of them out is grounds for defamation.
I've seen the idea before. You don't single one out, you do though the alphabet like they do with storm names. There's plenty of companies to choose from at each letter so you can do different ones different years.

Is it defamation if it's true? In a podcast about serial killers, it isn't considered defamation either if an episode is about one specific serial killer, right?
It would be fun to see them take it to court and the judge rule against them. Assuming it wasn't done American judge they'd bought of course.
