Seriously... name any service that you would trust a man this age and in this condition to perform for you besides helping you find a book at your local library (and even that is a stretch). We have a terribly broken political system.

More flattering shot than usual
I'm all about the inherent weirdness of his disappearance.
However, It's an attrocious shot with bad contrast, cropping and lighting and on another angles and expression. I still see more similarities than differences.

One is a telephoto that’s not really on focus; the other is a crisp portriat. The original tweeter is just looking to stir up controversy where there already is plenty of things to talk about.
Not to mention that there are plenty of geriatric end of life medical issues that can cause fluid retention that would make the face look less wrinkled.
Look up "terminal lucidity" and you will find the reports of nurses who have seen people not only recovering mentally, but also physically only days before their death. It's a very weird phenomenon which I'm still not completely sure is real, but this could match that really good if he (hopefully) dies shortly.
Also I bet they covered him in makeup head to toes.
It's a very real and fairly well documented phenomenon. Depending on the underlying sickness and/or disease, it obviously doesn't always happen, but especially in older patients close to a "natural death," it's common enough.
I've seen it dirst hand as nurse a couple of times, and in all but one, it was extremely touching and heartfelt for the families (the last one didn't have anyone) to be able to say goodbye and speak with their relatives for a few while, perhaps convey last wishes and such. In one case, even the pain the patient had suffered for a long time all but disappeared for a while.
The one who was alone was a much sadder case. Me and a few other nurses took turns just talking with her, mostly reminiscing about her life and experiences and such. It was a profound experience, but damn if it didn't feel sad. A whole (and long, at that) life and not a single relative or friend there at the end. Not because she was a bad person either, just bad luck. I felt worse for her than my own relatives who died surrounded by family and with elaborate wills and funerals.
To end on a more positive note, though, weird things do happen to us when we're close. Our bodies are such a wonder in many ways, like that.
My cat was 19 and basically only hung out in like 1 room and felt safe there. She randomly came out and jumped on the couch and went all over the house and like 5 days later she was limping and passed overnight after bringing her home from a vet visit.
All animals I've had that were terminally sick had a great last day, like terminal lucidity but more like terminal enjoyment.
My gram had that, the day before she went she was sitting up and talking after being unconscious for a week. Family had photos taken with her. I missed it because of work and have been sad about it since.
Yep. I work in hospice, and when a patient that has been declining significantly suddenly has a great day (alert, conversational, eating) silent alarms start going off.
Probubbly something like a last push where the body decide to burn the candle at both ends to finish what the person needs to do in they life.
Or alternatively, some protective mechanism with the side effect of diminished capacity gives out and the side effect goes away but the body fails to something the mechanism was staving off.
Makes sense to me, we already have systems similar to that with adrenaline and placebo. People are too quick to mix up "we can't explain it (yet)" with "it doesn't exist".
Who moves like that? First eyes then head follows? I can't think of anyone other than the Terminator

People don't seem to realize that camera lens and lighting can vastly change the color, depth, and shape of your image. Most of the time if you see some differences in between two pictures of the same person it's because they were taken with different lenses or under different lighting.
Some focal length comparisons:
Til 200mm lenses make people look like cardboard cutouts
Technically focal length doesn't matter directly, only indirectly, because the phenomenon is almost entirely defined by the distance from the camera and the subject. If you have a 50mm lens and take the photo as far away as the 200mm lens, the person will look roughly the same when cropped down to the same apparent size (minus the loss of resolution from cropping and a smaller effective sensor size).
If you slap on a 200mm lens on a camera within 2 meters of your subject, though, you might not be able to focus, and if you can you wouldn't be able to fit their entire face in frame.
But that also means our eyes, with our fixed focal lengths, can experience the same thing, by just moving closer or further away from a subject. Our visual cortex automatically adjusts a lot of things, but get up close and see someone's ears or hair shrink in relative terms compared to their nose, or get far away and see their nose get back to a normal ratio to their eyes or ears.
Side note, this is a big reason why I don't care for selfies. I don't like the distortion.
This is true, but not very helpful: the comparison is about varying focal length while keeping the share of the image occupied by the subject the same.
Yes, but I bring it up for the specific example of using our own eyes to achieve this effect, rather than relying on a camera. We don't have a choice to change the focal length of our own eyes, or even crop the image, but the effect is still there.

I think brain dead would require a ventilator since there would be no mental ability for basic functions to keep alive. It would be better to say seriously brain damaged, extremely diminished capacity or even the “ lights are on, nobody’s home” phrase you used later on. I hate to be pedantic but we thought he might be really brain dead the last 2-3 months when no one saw him.
