By sold well do you mean he bought himself a million copies so it could be said that it sold well?

That's the entire fucking streamer house of cards.

[–] CultLeader4Hire@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That’s just a normal thing best selling authors do

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 month ago

Yeah the ceo of my company did this to then use the books as swag at tradeshows and meetings

[–] Iconoclast@feddit.uk -1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

You got any evidence to back that claim up?

[–] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 18 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

It's a pretty commonly utilized tactic that's especially employed by grifters who want to lend credence to the grift and political operatives who want to... lend credence to their grift. Occasionally though by people who want to gain notoriety in a field they're new in, keep up a streak of success if they're not sure about the book's quality, or do a book tour and have something to sell the talkshows. In all cases it's employed by people with more money than talent.

A source among many about NYT influence peddling: https://londondaily.com/evtepe-new-york-times-bestseller-list-exposed-fake-editorial-manipulation-not-sales-based-rankings

This other source is more specific to what the other commenter was referring to though: https://factually.co/fact-checks/politics/politicians-political-groups-buying-bulk-books-reports-2f81ef

I've added '& Mr beast shill' to your growing list of tags reminding me why I ought to not take anything you say seriously.

You're one of my least favorite people on Lemmy. Thought you should know. Cheers!

[–] baines@lemmy.cafe 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

just block him

i have a good 6 or so constant posters blocked and it’s funny to see all these folded comment chains around

[–] foggy@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I have like 30+ folks blocked. My tolerance for bullshit is too low so I have switched to tagging people with reasons why I might go over the edge and block them.

He's 2 or 3 more interactions like this away from the block list. Any overt hate speech or dehumanizing shit still gets an instablock. But that ain't this guy afaik. He's just a douche with ridiculously unpopular opinions.

[–] FUCKING_CUNO@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 month ago

Is it at an appropriate reading level for his fans? Perhaps a picture book?

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I've never seen his videos but I rarely hear good things

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 1 month ago

its mainly targeted towards gen Alpha audience, stupid gimmicks for a impressionable young audience. also the biggest drama was the LUNCHLY disaster with KSI, paul brother, and another influencer. they made a wierd commercial how "its the best lunchable-like food they ate" and all of them look they had a gun to thier heads.

[–] dudeface@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I have watched a few, once you have seen one you have basically seen them all though, they have a rigid formula

I needed something to talk to my nephew about when he was younger

[–] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 11 points 1 month ago

And the number one movie was called "Ass". And that's all it was.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaIfpqN5rUs

[–] tazeycrazy@feddit.uk 11 points 1 month ago (1 children)

A movie about a YouTube star. I wonder what it will reveal. What social statement will it make. How will it show the art of AI sloping your way to a script and a thumbnail.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Have you ever seen a movie about an underdog who follows their dreams despite everyone telling them they're not gonna make it, and then they make it?

It'll be that.

[–] tazeycrazy@feddit.uk 1 points 1 month ago

How much of the movie will be him counting. I would hope at least half but the rest will be him begging for follows from bigger internet sensations.

[–] CanadaPlus@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

The Mr.Beast Movie feels a bit like cotton candy flavoured cotton candy.

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

People gonna stupid. Can't fix that.

[–] reddig33@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

And publishers pay people to buy their books so they get on the best seller list.

And publishers pay ghost writers to write many “celebrity” authored books.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

"Is your book any good?"

"No."

"Can we make a shitload of money filming it?"

"Yes."

"We start shooting tomorrow."

[–] Crackhappy@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago
[–] MidsizedSedan@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

I remember hearing articles about the Minecraft movie. I thought that would never happen.

I was wrong.

My gut reaction here is again, "that would never happen" let's see in 5-10 years...

[–] Blaster_M@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Ah, Mr. Beast... I didn't know he had a book. I remember his vids. They were algo-hitting "do crazy stuff" survivor-like videos, along with philantrophy vids. Dude's got issues, but rarely do you get a youtuber that's super popular and isn't a problem offscreen.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 3 points 1 month ago

his eyes are soulless like dolls eyes, he really has very little emotion going on.

[–] Eternal192@anarchist.nexus 3 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Why would you buy his book??

[–] FatVegan@leminal.space 5 points 1 month ago

People bought his lead filled lunchables

[–] Rothe@piefed.social 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

He has a lot of fans. They would probably buy anything of his.

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

Also parents looking for a present to fill out the birthday pile. Not the worst idea, to be honest, anything to get them reading.

[–] TAG@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

All I know about him is that he has a very large YouTube audience and that he does particularly well among young adults. That is an audience that has (a little bit of) disposable income but is still learning how to make good use of their money. I assume Mr. Beast advertised his book non-stop on his channel, so his viewers went out and purchased it.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

for me any post about mr beast is mildly irritating like the rest of the "influencers". I by and large don't know anything about them except their "influencers" and I begrudge every small thing I migh know because of a commercial or post.

[–] anarchy79@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

All I know is that I can't stand that psychopathic imitation of a smile he does.

[–] isVeryLoud@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 month ago
[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 month ago

I thought this was fake until I saw it at the store yesterday.

[–] LordFireCrotch@lemmy.today 0 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I didn't even know he wrote a book.

Just curious what you don't like about him.

I don't consume any of his content. All I really know about him is he does gameshow things and dug some wells in Africa I think.

Or maybe that was eye surgery?

Hell maybe both, I don't even know.

Oh and something about his teeth.

[–] sundray@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago

I don't find his antics entertaining. But also he might be a bad person on top of that: https://time.com/7010441/mrbeast-accusations-explained/

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 1 points 1 month ago

his influence sells very well in ASIA apparently, they like his shitty food he sells, and his "comical" channel.
