Cars honking in radio commercials

[–] Gullible@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Now, I would never advocate barricading the doors and burning down an ad agency. I'd also never suggest placing faux fall slowing structures around a building to encourage executives to escape acrid smoke via seemingly painless expeditiousness. I'd least of all imply that fire departments have finite resources and setting five fires likely leaves one free to do its necessary work.

What I do assert is that honking in radio ads is deleterious to my mental health.

Is the cat meowing in the background of the Claire Saffitz video, or two rooms away in my own home?

There's one song which has a section that sounds like my mum calling me down for dinner. I still instinctively rip off my earphones and check, even after having moved out decades ago

Did that door open in the video, or the back of my house?

One time my music started playing from my phone in my pocket, very faintly, and I didn't realize. I was like "do you hear led Zeppelin??" and walked around the house for a while trying to find where it was coming from.

Usually me during audiobook listening sessions. WTF was that?! Pause... Listen... Repeat.

I was watching a movie with earphones in and my cat sitting near me. Suddenly she looks up, wide eyed, at nothing down the hallway behind me. I look and confirm nothing. She settles. I go back to my movie. And it happens again! And again! Five lots of this before she finally settled, and I felt unnerved enough to turn the volume down and take one earphone out for the rest of the movie.
