Don't worry; as soon as your head hits the pillow you will have no desire to sleep.

[–] FinjaminPoach@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Truest meme I've seen in a while.

That being said, I once went to the doctor because I was feeling ridiculously fatigued and they revealed I had critically low vitamin d and slightly low iron (i had recently donated blood tbf).

After taking some vitamin d I got better, had a lot more energy.

So maybe more of us have this than we think.

[–] ulterno@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I too have been getting too less sunlight exposure and too much cigarette smoke exposure whenever I get out.
Perhaps I should check if a relevant blood test is available here.

[–] myyass@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

Can't live the dream if you're a awake.

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 56 points 2 days ago (3 children)

My doctor once asked if I had any hobbies. I told him the only thing I want to do with my free time is to sleep.

So anyway, I was diagnosed with major depression.

[–] OriginalTangle@feddit.org 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

So jealous! I only got disthymia. My doctor won't even get me on meds.

Just kidding, not jealous. Depression sucks. They all suck.

[–] dingus@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Honestly I'm not even depressed but I just in general am a pretty lazy and easily tired person lol. I remember when I got my first full time job in my early 20s. Was my first time working 40 hours a week and I was like holy shit is every adult just tired all the time from this???

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

Yeah, I work a lot some days. I'm an independent contractor so it's my work, and it ebbs and flows. Some days I work from 730-9, 10-2, then 5-11. On those days, I choose to nap from 2-3pm or so. I could do other stuff, but nothing trumps a nap.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 19 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It can also be a major anxiety disorder too!

Thank god treatments like Ketamine are becoming available.

[–] Malica@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That works for anxiety too?

As an adult, I literally can't do whatever I want, that's why I always want to go back to sleep.

[–] cattywampas@lemmy.world 46 points 2 days ago (9 children)

I hate sleeping. A third of your life, down the drain. I wish we didn't have to sleep.

[–] Mac@mander.xyz 26 points 2 days ago

If we didn't have to sleep we'd be forced to work 18hrs a day.

[–] KC_Royalz@lemmy.world 23 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Cooking. I love to cook but at minimum 30 minutes for the family. Eat, cleanup at least a hour and a half of your evening gone.

Actually I hate the cleanup

[–] saltesc@lemmy.world 20 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I'm like this with shitting. It's so insisingly inconvenient.

"Oooh. I'm in the middle of something, but you go right ahead bowel. Go on, let's go spend the next five minutes making smell and needing cleaning.. Fucking asshole."

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 8 points 2 days ago

We get the shit end of the anatomy stick because our rectum doesn't prolapse a bit, making cleaning necessary.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 11 points 2 days ago

I hate going to sleep because of this.

But I love staying asleep more.

[–] nil@piefed.ca 5 points 2 days ago

really? I wish I could sleep forever without waking up for the rest of my life

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Have you tried not sleeping? I get insomnia. I have stayed up 4 days in a row with back to back work.

It's thrilling.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

which hallucination was your favorite on day 4?

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I was at a house cleaning (my partner and I clean airbnbs)

It's a big house in between Valdosta and Hahira GA. They called it the Morven House.

https://maps.app.goo.gl/WStvQFQyBQEtBiLa9

That's the house, to give an idea of how in the woods I was. It was 2 story house with a huge master bed and bath, huge family room and huge kitchen. With 3 bedrooms and a fullbath up stairs. The outside was woods with a river in the back.

This was about 12 at night (car didn't have ac at the time, so I drove it at night)

My partner usually works with me, but she had been working really hard so I was by myself.

Around 2 am, I was mopping the master bath. When I heard what I thought was someone running up stairs. The lights were off up there, as I had just finished cleaning it.

I stopped, waited. Didn't hear anything, got back to listening to Distractible. That's when I heard it again.

Now, I'm not a little bitch. Human or Demon, you best be ready for objects to be flung at you and fist to ignite you. I am as mean as Satan's spit. So, with a piece of rebar I keep on my cleaning kit (yes crazy, but no one fucks with a man with a 12 in rebar in his hand) I went up and said "anyone here, this is your only chance to leave. Other wise I will kill you.

Which sounds crazy, but I know what humans are capable of. My mom was almost kidnapped by a group of men on her way home from working at the 7/11 in Tampa.

And if you are in my house or place.of work when you aren't suppose to be, I assume the worst.

I get up there a flick the lights on. Checked each room. Nobody. As I left the last room, and started towards the stairs that's when it got bad.

Suddenly I heard feet. Big feet. And felt it. It felt like someone big like Andrea the Giant big was bull rushing me from behind. My brain screamed, my body tensed, and I swung around rebar up and ready to bop a mudder.

I was left looking down a pitch black hallway. I stood there for what felt like forever but was just a couple of minutes. Finished up with no podcast or music and left so quickly.

The creepiest part was going to get in the car. Pitch black woods with no lights.

my freakiest day 4 hallucination was seeing a shadow person walk through the window then jump into my favorite nephew's mouth like it was possessing him. I fucking know shadow people aren't real, but like, holy shit.

i'm glad you got some sleep after that. i would need the biggest hug.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Oh damn. I have seen shadows dart across.

The hardest was seeing a blurry image of my little baby princess cat Mable. She had passed during Christmas and it was a week after. I just couldn't sleep. Blaming myself for not knowing she was sick or the way she got sick could've been prevented.

I was 33, in a vets office, letting our wails of sorrow and pain. On my knees begging a God I don't believe in to save a cat I stole from it's abusive owners.

So I was distraught for a while. I'm even tearing up typing this.

I saw her out the corner of my eye and heard her little chirps she would do to greet me when I got home. I turned my head so quickly and went "Mable!?' Then it hit me...she wasn't there. She was gone and I'd never see her again.

It haunts me to this day and I feel, honest to the Universe, that I hear her in other rooms and seeQ her run by the corner of my eye.

I'd be lying if I didn't say sometimes I hope the hallucinating would get to a point to see her fully and tell her how sorry I am I failed her and how I wish I wouldn't have been so busy being a father and a husband that I could have seen she needed me. To tell her that her little cat life left such an impact on me that I choose to confront life with more kindness and love, just like she would do.

Ugh sorry. Got emotional there.

You are a very kind person. I've had a few good interactions with you and I have enjoyed them all.

Thank you for being who you are. Not many folks are like that. I hope nothing but goods for you and yours.

[–] KC_Royalz@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Had a small bout a few years ago. Think I had 4 hours of sleep in about 72 hours. I realized I needed to sleep because I kept dropping stuff from micro naps. I've always been a night owl but I struggle to make it past midnight anymore

Feature, not a bug. At least for me. Sleep is time away from the bad place.

[–] rockerface@lemmy.cafe 4 points 2 days ago

I feel like this often

[–] Godofdirt@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

I'm so tired, why am I still up

[–] RedGreenBlue@lemmy.zip 16 points 2 days ago

When you have nothing to look forward to and uncounciousness is an escape.

[–] WorldsDumbestMan@lemmy.today 11 points 2 days ago

Oh really? Start camping in a forest for more than 3 days, see what happens.

Reality sucks in large doses, I prefer to microdose consciousness as much as I can and spend the rest of my time not here

[–] tanisnikana@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

Sleep is my favorite affordable thing to eat.

Man, I miss the good old days when we had some communities and places where we could meet up with people from our neighborhood or whatever. Everything in the world became so much poisonous, most individuals are brain washed and all they care about is "self". Hell, they even commercialized meeting up with that meetup website.

I literally sat down and thought about this very same topic today: What are we supposed to do when we're not at work or commuting? Try to form a band? Everybody wants to play a very specific "self" music. Join in a hobby class? No thanks capitalism. Volunteer? I don't even feel like my time is appreciated there anymore, like on purpose I'm being felt into thinking "you're doing a free labour for us!!!"

I really miss the times when we could simply meetup and talk about whatever. People had a lot more empathy, and there was a social code that would punish you if you're being selfish and rude, now it feels the opposite.

[–] Almacca@aussie.zone 3 points 1 day ago

Church groups used to serve that purpose for me, but I gave up religion a long time ago.

[–] JamesMay@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I think it’s a millennial/gen z thing, the oldies seem to still find plenty of people to spend time with

[–] skidicarus@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah, it's been a real challenge. In my effort to break from the internet as my social outlet, I've been volunteering at my local fire company, going to church, and trying to get involved with some local politics. Difficult for sure.

[–] wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 2 days ago

In general, people don't tend to give themselves actual down time anymore (not looking at a screen. taking a walk, reading a book, or sitting around type shit) so when we have that level of relaxation all the built up anxiety and exhaustion comes crashing down all at once. So sleep.

[–] darthsundhaft@piefed.social 11 points 2 days ago

I go to sleep because that's the only place I can actually be what I want and have what I want but then I keep waking up.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

the wish is unfulfilled only if you cannot go to sleep

[–] tigermountain@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

I wish I could do whatever I want as an adult.

[–] EgoNo4@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (3 children)

Unless you have kids... Don't have kids...

[–] Dozzi92@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I love being awake and hanging out with my kids. But if they're at school and I have a free hour, I'm taking a nap, because they definitely make me tired.
