My copium is that they're not releasing the Steam Frame because they're finishing HL3 which will be a launch title, playable in VR or flat.

Given what a banger HL: Alyx was - definitely the best VR title that I played, at least - that would be incredibly hype. Heck, I'd just take HL: Alyx 2.

Alyx is not my favorite VR game, but I do think it is the best VR game made. It is so immersive that there were many times playing it where I genuinely forgot I was playing a game. My first playthrough I played the entire last half, from exiting the Northern Star all the way through the end, in one hours long session and by the time I took off my headset I felt like I didn't quite know who I was, where I was, or what the F just happened. I felt a little disoriented and off kilter for like 2 days afterwards. 10/10 experience, highly recommend.

Or they're just fighting to get Alyx to run directly on the headset because of course everyone will try to do that despite any warnings.

Years back, I predicted the next HL game would be VR because Valve only released new HL when they do some leap in tech or otherwise. Story telling, physics, episodic game, then Alyx was the VR title. I just wish Alyx wasn't a prequel, didn't recon the previous setup, and wasn't VR only.

The next HL game being for the Frame makes sense, but don't count on it being HL3.

Well you’ll get a broken game on the disc because it’s missing the day 1 45GB patch. Even worse is that a system update that doesn’t exist yet may be needed to even play the game properly.

That reminds me I need to install a new SSD so that when it inevitably comes out on PC I'll have somewhere to put it. I've only got one terabyte of storage left that won't be enough space.

Here is my list:

Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Part 2

Prey 2

Dishonored 3

Prey (2009)

Perfect Dark Remake

Metal Gear Rising 2 (c'mon it's easy money)

I would add Bloodborne remake but we have it at home already

[–] Ascrod@midwest.social 3 points 1 month ago

Deus Ex MD would have been nice without, you know, EA.

Seeing Deus Ex 3 and Prey 2 hurt my soul

Coincidentally there was a Half-Life 2: Episode 3 leak the other day

You mean the file dump that hasn't actually been shown to have episode 3 stuff in it or something else?

[–] sundray@lemmus.org 3 points 1 month ago

I think there was some unused assets for the scrapped version of Portal 2 which may or may not have been shared with a potential HL2: Episode 3 or something. Which is like, meh? Close enough for headline writers to go nuts, anyway.

[–] SomGye@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The 12TB Steam dump that supposedly has stuff, I admittedly didn’t look into it since it’s not really my interest

[–] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 3 points 1 month ago

I believe the news was "we haven't looked through all of it yet so we can't guarantee there ISN'T any episode 2 stuff"

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I'm 60, I played all the HL games at release. I'll probably die before HL:3 is released.

[–] RonnyZittledong@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

As you draw your last breath a release date will be announced

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Right, because Boromir went to the alternate future where Valve continued making games... rather than just selling everyone else's.

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

If capitalism taught us anything, it's that middle-manning is the most efficient way to make money for doing basically nothing. 🤢

[–] alsaaas@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

You know they are making Dealock, made CS2 in 2023 and are doing major updates there?

[–] cerebralhawks@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 1 month ago

Not my field; really only interested in single-player games... like Half-Life and Portal. And gacha games are straight out.

[–] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 month ago

Bahahaha, savage. 🤣

[–] Killer57@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

There is more than enough proof that HLX exists in a polished state at the Valve offices, it's just a matter of getting them to acknowledge it/let it out into the world.

[–] echodot@feddit.uk 4 points 1 month ago

I wonder if they're waiting for the release of the steam frame. That would be a very valve thing to do, release the product without telling anybody about it hiding it behind the release of another product.

Is it weird I’d prefer Portal 3 instead of Half Life 3?
