⚄︎ Perchance

This is a Lemmy Community for perchance.org, a platform for sharing and creating random text generators.

Feel free to ask for help, share your generators, and start friendly discussions at your leisure :)

This community is mainly for discussions between those who are building generators. For discussions about using generators, especially the popular AI ones, the community-led Casual Perchance forum is likely a more appropriate venue.

See this post for the Complete Guide to Posting Here on the Community!

Rules

1. Please follow the Lemmy.World instance rules.

2. Be kind and friendly.

  • Please be kind to others on this community (and also in general), and remember that for many people Perchance is their first experience with coding. We have members for whom English is not their first language, so please be take that into account too :)

3. Be thankful to those who try to help you.

  • If you ask a question and someone has made a effort to help you out, please remember to be thankful! Even if they don't manage to help you solve your problem - remember that they're spending time out of their day to try to help a stranger :)

4. Only post about stuff related to perchance.

  • Please only post about perchance related stuff like generators on it, bugs, and the site.

5. Refrain from requesting Prompts for the AI Tools.

  • We would like to ask to refrain from posting here needing help specifically with prompting/achieving certain results with the AI plugins (text-to-image-plugin and ai-text-plugin) e.g. "What is the good prompt for X?", "How to achieve X with Y generator?"
  • See Perchance AI FAQ for FAQ about the AI tools.
  • You can ask for help with prompting at the 'sister' community Casual Perchance, which is for more casual discussions.
  • We will still be helping/answering questions about the plugins as long as it is related to building generators with them.

6. Search through the Community Before Posting.

  • Please Search through the Community Posts here (and on Reddit) before posting to see if what you will post has similar post/already been posted.

Is there a point in trying to complain about this? Ever since the server migration, the prose has gotten unbearably heavy. It's difficult to read, and all characters end up being the exact same with only a few personality types. Anyone who shows a hint of being antagonistic is immediately cold, detached, and clinical no matter how many times I try to change it to heated or whatever.

It's not just bad; it's exceedingly awful and overcomplicated like a middle schooler trying to sound smart.

It keeps censoring nsfw scenes and rushing to the end of them.

The long-standing issue with Perchance is its inconsistency. If it performs well for a month, you can be sure the next month will be a downgrade. Even throughout the same day, it can be fine during certain hours and then randomly deteriorate out of nowhere.

And then there's the whole censorship thing. I remember two years ago everyone was complaining about how the model was so overly wholesome the classic "Let's not get ahead of ourselves" era. Now I realize that was probably on the Dev. Then they replaced it with another model; it was good at first, but after those stupid safety measures, the breaths started hitching. It feels like the model falls into a loop just to evade something.

And did the model change again recently? Something happened about two months ago where it started off great again, but now here we are. It’s honestly terrible. And we have no way of knowing why because we’re completely in the dark on these things we basically have to stalk the Dev like creeps just to get any info.

I genuinely love the Dev, and they deserve all the praise for this project which we all give them anyway. But on the critical side, credit where it's due: successfully wrecking every single model, whether on purpose or not, is honestly quite an accomplishment as well.

I spent a month specifically on this problem, doing all the research I could about NLG, pipeline output, negative instructions causing priming, etc. Not when I got home "a month," compiling while I'm at my 10 hour shift a day a month. The answer is no. The system bypasses all instructions for raw output, the best you can do is tell it to recreate it again without using what was said, thus priming the system to do it again because it can't retain the memory of it being relevant in the raw output.

I apologize for my ignorance but are you saying that whatever instructions we put in prompts and the generator code, it doesn’t matter, the model ignores it? Because that is how it feels to me.

It wasn't just a model switch; it was a complete fuckup.

What on earth has happened here? No one knows.

Slang? Gone. Cursing? Let's keep it PG-13, while wondering about the logistics of what possessed the dev to implement this godawful model.

No, but on a more serious note, I actually liked this model at first... not anymore though. Seriously, fucking c.ai provides a better experience than this now. I've practically abandoned the platform now and moved to this instead: solania.ai. It's limited, but it uses the old LLM, so that immediately makes it better than Perchance atm.

Until the dev removes this model, Perchance is dead to me.

I tried using the AI helper to adjust the code to stop the sanitizing and it would adjust it and then run a generation itself and it would still fail. It gave up.
