1. Relevant commentary on your own dull life. Posts should be about your own dull, lived experience. This is our most important rule. Direct questions, random thoughts, comment baiting, advice seeking, many uses of "discuss" rarely comply with this rule.

2. Original, Fresh, Meaningful Content.

3. Avoid repetitive topics.

4. This is not a search engine
Use a search engine, a tradesperson, Reddit, friends, a specialist Facebook group, apps, Wikipedia, an AI chat, a reverse image search etc. to answer simple questions or identify objects. Also see rule 1, “comment baiting”.

There are a number of content specific communities with subject matter experts who can help you.

Some other communities to consider before posting:

5. Keep it dull. If it puts us to sleep, it’s on the right track. Examples of likely not dull: jokes, gross stuff (including toes), politics, religion, royalty, illness or injury, killing things for fun, or promotional content. Feel free to post these elsewhere.

6. No hate speech, sexism, or bullying No sexism, hate speech, degrading or excessively foul language, or other harmful language. No othering or dehumanizing of anyone or negativity towards any gender identity.

7. Proofread before posting. Use good grammar and punctuation. Avoid useless phrases. Some examples: - starting a post with "So" - starting a post with pointless phrases, like "I hope this is allowed" or “this is my first post” Only share good quality, cropped images. Do not share screenshots of images; share the original image.

Look how clean the inside is

[–] Betterthanlast@mstdn.social 20 points 1 month ago (1 children)

@bizzle oh man! Just looking at the pictures is bringing back the smell, the sound the locks make, the feeling of pulling to open the door, the slight vibration when you accelerate. Love this! Have fun with this project!

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

New car smell is overrated, old car smell is where it's at

[–] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Car driven by old people smell. :)

I think my grandparents had a very similar car (like the ‘88 or ‘89 model).

[–] manmachine@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Still can’t understand why they stopped making interiors in nice colors, looks so much better than the modern sea of gray

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Same reason most new cars sold are black, white or gray on the outside. Dealers found that those are the colors most customers who come in looking for other colors will settle for if they get a good deal. Same with interiors.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Couldn't agree more. Cars today are real samey and that's not really my vibe

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

GM still using that 1960's sweep speedometer. It's what the old folks in the 90's were used to, I guess. Haha

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I think the speedometer slaps, the 93 that I'm using as a parts car has a digital dash and I hate it. "Ain't broke, don't fix it" feel me?

[–] Onomatopoeia@lemmy.cafe 3 points 1 month ago

Uggh, I despise digital dash.

I don't hate the sweep, I just recognize it as what GM has used since the 60's. More of an interesting aside, kind of surprised me they retained it for so long.

[–] LovableSidekick@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Opposite - give me one nice large, exact number to glance at instantly instead of figuring out which numbers the orange line is closest to.

[–] bridgeenjoyer@sh.itjust.works 14 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Underappreciated survivor ! Rides like a boat I bet!

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 9 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Sure is and sure does! I love these old caddies man. This is like my fourth one. I had a 99. I had a 93. I had a 92 and now I got a 90. Can't get enough of these old caddies bro. They're so good

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Good in what ways? Genuinely interested.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 17 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The styling fucks hard which I really appreciate. They're also really big on the inside, everyone has leg room. The bench seat means I can put an arm around the ol' lady while we cruise down to the malt shop on the pillowy suspension. They're not super rare yet, which means I can get this example for $3000, but they're not super common either so it really turns heads. It will never track me because it can't, idk if you remember 90s technology but the 5g enabled surveillance state was science fiction back then. Most importantly, driving it makes you feel like you have two dicks (even if you start with no dicks at all).

[–] Reverendender@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (1 children)

What kind of mileage do you get?

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 6 points 1 month ago

I'm averaging 25 which kicks the shit out of my truck

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 11 points 1 month ago (2 children)

But how will all the data mongers track your every movement, sound, weight, and gender?!?!

Won’t anybody think of the poor data mongers?!!

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not to worry, I'm also driving a modern f150 for work

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 2 points 1 month ago

wew, I was worried that 172 random companies in Asia might not have access to your fartijg habits

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

That's why I drive with my phone everywhere.

[–] Inucune@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Check the break lines and the power steering cooler loop. That is what killed mine. Good luck!

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Break lines are good I haven't checked that cooler loop though thanks for the heads up

[–] FrChazzz@lemmus.org 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Oh man, my grandparents had a maroon/maroon interior ("leather") of this car and I've had dreams of discovering that I somehow own it.

When I was like 17 my van was out of service for a few weeks and my grandparents lent me this car for a week when they were out of town. I listed exclusively to the hip hop station that week and forgot to reset the dial before giving it back to them. My grandfather had questions about what I'd done lol

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

That's sweet, the burgundy looks so good!

[–] kalpol@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago

We had one of these. Get rid of the aluminum block engine, whatever that is, and put in an LS or something better. Really makes it a different car.

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Velour seats or vinyl ?

That's what always makes it or breaks it for me.

Damn, I miss velour car seats.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

The dash is vinyl but the seats are actually leather you can tell

[–] daannii@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's a decent compromise. Vinyl is the worst in the summer. Especially with shorts on.

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

You're right about the velour though I actually feel like I got slighted by not having it. Alas, the original owner didn't think to consult me.

[–] FireWire400@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Why does that thing remind me of the Zimmer Quicksilver? I guess the body lines are similar.

Nice car. Both I mean.

[–] TIEPilot@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I so love those years of Cadillac, reminds me of being a kid

But the color reminds me of:

"Oh, yeah? I only see one LeBaron, Freddy."

"I don't see two LeBarons."

Since it's a project not just a car, what kind of work are you planning to do on it?

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

Alright so it's actually a little too clean which sucks. But the vinyl armrests are cracked so I have to fix that, the leather is old and discolored so I'm re-dying it. Then I have to do the headliner, and while it's torn apart for that I'm doing a sound system. Eventually I'm going to replace the carpets but that's $$$. Mechanically it's pretty clean, I replaced the alternator and I'm thinking about a 75 shot of dry nitrous for highway passes but that's a tough sell to the wife. It's a resto-mod, I almost wish it wasn't so crisp so I'd have an excuse to paint it but that's a first world problem for sure. Maybe I'll bag it? Maybe a little tasteful underglow?

[–] BurntWits@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago

I’ve always loved older cars, especially that style, and would love to have a project car. Unfortunately I know nothing about cars except how to drive them. My buddy’s a mechanic so I could always ask him for help I suppose but I don’t think it’s a good idea to get started on a project car if you’re a complete novice.

[–] dream_weasel@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 month ago (2 children)

You're gonna lift it and put on a set of 24s with spinning rims, right?

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I had chrome dubs on my 99 check it out. Unfortunately the Midwest potholes are not good for those skinny ass rubber band tires so I broke two of them after like 6 months and decided I would never run skinny little tires again 😂

[–] mbp@slrpnk.net 2 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

Hell yeah, brother

That's sick as hell

Edit: those dice complete the look

[–] bizzle@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The dice have been on all my cars ever but now I have two so they're in the truck 😂 worry not I have a blue set in the mail for the '90

[–] HarneyToker@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Don’t let c/fuckcars see this, you’re basically the antichrist.
