The airport is a wild place to judge and gatekeep others. Everyone is stuck there waiting, and depending on specifically where, you have limited access to anything brought-in and are at the mercy of massively overpriced options.

[–] hansolo@lemmy.today 3 points 2 days ago

It's also pretty poor vs. poor. If you're going to gate keep the airport, where is the flex about some high tier lounge where you had a beer with a B-list celeb and they served whatever ridiculous stuff they claim those lounges have to sell passes? Lobster ravioli made by some Italian chef from Maine or whatever.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Also the comment is right, the Beff Empenada is just some.boring ass basic shit but they gave it a fancy name.

If they called the burger a "Beef Slabion con Quisito" or some shit to make it spunds fancy and foreign, he wouldn't complain.

[–] ricecake@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

So an empanada isn't a rare delicacy or anything, but it's a stretch to say that they just gave it a fancy name. It's not being fancy to call a food by its name, and it's not even foreign for a food to have a Spanish name in Miami.

[–] heartSagan5@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago

Right? Captive “audience.”

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I look for the least overpriced meal and I get that meal.

Often it's a sandwich, but sometimes it's a burger. It's still overpriced, but 200% overpriced is better than 500% overpriced and pretending to be bougie.

I got onigiri at breakfast on my last trip. It was just about perfect.

Cheap, hand food, fresh. If I wanted to purchase a second one, it would have kept nice until I was on my flight.

[–] bitwolf@sh.itjust.works 1 points 21 hours ago* (last edited 21 hours ago)

Man I wish my local airport had Onigiri. It's like the most perfect on the go food

[–] Furbag@pawb.social 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

My go to airport meal is pounding as many beers as I can at the bar so I hopefully pass out after I get on the plane.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 16 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Wine

You don't have to pee like if you drink beer

I fly from Australia to the US several times a year and rarely piss on the 15 hour flight, because I stick to wine

[–] baronvonj@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Fifteen hours without having to urinate sounds like a medical condition, or an invitation to incontinence later in life.

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

That's a weird thing to say

[–] FE80@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

30-60 minutes after drinking a glass of water is a normal amont of time to start needing to urinate. Fifteen whole hours of not needing to urinate, while drinking during those hours, is not normal. Like get your kidneys checked, and prostate if you have one. Chronically holding your urine when you need to go can stretch the bladder and lead to incontinence later in life.

I've got a trip to Vegas coming up in September. I'll give it a try next time.

Cheers to my Australian friends!

[–] tamal3@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

The Australians know their stuff

[–] FistingEnthusiast@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

I'm in Vegas right now

It's brutally hot and the evening offers practically no respite

"beef empanada" Either use the name of the dish in the original language or in your 💔

[–] Blibly@lemmy.world 170 points 4 days ago (15 children)

People who gatekeep fucking food can just shove it in their mouths and shut the fuck up.

[–] stark@sopuli.xyz 62 points 3 days ago (2 children)

People who gatekeep fucking food …

How about we don’t fuck food at all

[–] Imgonnatrythis@sh.itjust.works 28 points 3 days ago (10 children)

Whoa. You're the worst kind of gatekeeper. Simultaneously gatekeeping food and kink shaming.

There are several airports that I travel through regularly that have absolute shit when it comes to food.

For several of them I'm stuck steering towards the least offensive options.

more like eating a mexican hamburger and a turnover.

this has gotta be a troll though. it's like a weeb saying the same shit but with the punchline being to eat ramen.

[–] mycodesucks@lemmy.world 94 points 3 days ago (13 children)

What kind of life do people like this lead where they think EVERY SINGLE PASSING THOUGHT they have is SO important and insightful that they need to get it all out there?

[–] shweddy@lemmy.world 73 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Bro got the palate of a latino 10 year old

I usually have second thoughts about eating food made by someone who knows his customers will be a thousand miles away when the dysentery hits.

[–] RamenJunkie@midwest.social 10 points 2 days ago

Flying to Oregan, "You have died of dysentery."

Just like in the simulations.

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 43 points 3 days ago (6 children)

If I am at an airport, I'm probably not gonna eat anything because I refuse to pay $50 for a single meal.

Airports aside, I love it when people assume just because you like cheap food, it means you can't stomach or don't love good food, too.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

F'real man. Like, I love all sorts of food, but nothing hits quite like a really shitty cheap pizza, with that "cheese" that just comes off in a flat sheet.

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah. When I eat Taco Bell, it's not because I want Mexican food. It's because I want Taco Bell.

One of Gordon Ramsey's all time favorites in an IN-N-OUT burger.

[–] bitchkat@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

At least it's not grilled cheese.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

I had In-N-Out like 3 times and though it was just sub-par.

The next time, I sat there for a few minutes and listened to other people order and herard animal style a few times.

I have no idea why they don't just default their stuff that way. it went from tasteless generic to kick ass.

I consider myself lucky to not have to eat at airports. When I fly, it's usually direct flights, so I only have to wait maybe an hour. Not worth it (for me) paying prices 2-3 times higher than the already ridiculous ones.

[–] JusticeForPorygon@lemmy.blahaj.zone 50 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Nah man you see they used long words and therefore it's fancy

Oddly enough, I have had both gourmet burgers and pizza. The latter at an airport. And before anyone jumps that it is obscenely expensive, I was travelling on the federal government's dime.

[–] rumba@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

Travel food is often expensive. I don't mind paying 20-30 a plate, but it's gotta be good. I was in LAX a while back and got some tacos for $30 there that were just miserable.

[–] quarkquasar@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

I can't believe you would take missiles out of the innocent government's hands just to create happiness in a human.

The audacity!

[–] Sir_Premiumhengst@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Great so I paid for this. /s

[–] mindbleach@sh.itjust.works 24 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The airport is a lawless place. 7AM? Have a beer. Tired? Sleep on the floor. Hungry? Chips now cost $17.
