As always, learning about news through memes feels weird, but all the best for her! =D

I'm so lost on all this lol. Are people saying the game made them trans? And what's with the "fork in kitchen" bit? Is it saying like "duh"?

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 14 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

No idea about the fork to be honest.

In the original post, from which I cross posted, they mentioned that apparently a lot of trans people resonate with hard games, where you need to learn and practice a lot to achieve your goal. And Celeste was also a big hit in the trans community and its developer also came out as trans afterwards.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Huh, interesting. I wonder if that's actually true that trans people are more drawn to hardship than other demographics, or if that's just a social reinforcement feedback loop somehow.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It may not be drawn to hardship, so much as ability to overcome difficult circumstances. Or persistence. Or patience. Or adaptability. Or resilience.

Let’s not jump to negative conclusions.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Sure, not necessarily negative, hardship was a poor choice of word. I meant more like a challenge.

[–] hitmyspot@aussie.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

I think saying drawn to hardship has an unintended implication that they choose to be trans. And therefore choose hardship. That's who they are, not what they choose. That's why it bristled for me.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Ah okay, yeah, no, that's not at all what I intended to mean. It was more that they are going through hardship constantly due to their transness, and therefore might get bored with games that don't offer a challenge, because being trans made them tough as shit, and resilient. 😅 If they weren't already, of course.

But it's just wild speculation.

[–] NightFantom@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah, like "water is wet, fork found in kitchen, sky is blue"

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 5 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

So, it's "obvious" somehow that this person who made those games... is trans? Based on what? 😅

[–] NightFantom@slrpnk.net 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh no that part is just a joke, like OP said, it's been a whole joke with celeste being a big hit in the trans community, then the dev coming out as trans, this exact meme format was being used all the time, so I guess HK/SS were also big hits in the trans community and history repeats?

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Oh okay lol, thanks

[–] x7HlPDq9dSNO6v3A9@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Yeah it's exactly that. And "Fork found in kitchen" is like saying "Is the pope catholic" or sarcastically "I'll alert the media" about stuff that really isn't surprising.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

How can a game make someone trans? Especially those games?

[–] atrielienz@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's sarcasm. One of the Hollow Knight devs came out as trans relatively recently.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Okay good. I thought there was some MAGA logic at play here. 😌

[–] Atlas48@ttrpg.network 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

why are people so jumpy about transfem issues

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago

Me? I'm not jumpy, I just didn't understand what was going on. And I was trying to understand. 🙂

Only dummies think the game made them trans. The game basically gives off vibes that they’re trans, even before they came out, to the point where people aren’t surprised that they came out as trans.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The game gives off vibes that who are trans?

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 3 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I don’t know how to explain it. Art gives off vibes that reflect the artist’s inner feelings. That’s kind of a major part of art: an emotional outlet.

[–] Lvl50Hornist@indie-ver.se 1 points 4 days ago

Is it gender feelings to know exactly what you mean? tfw you can just feel the whole trans aura of the game a tiny bit. kinda weirdge, but cool. art is cool.

[–] chuckleslord@lemmy.world 2 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

The first hollow knight game features a male protagonist who is honestly a little bumbly looking. There's a secondary protagonist who is a girl and looks like she absolutely has all of her shit together, if a bit conceited. She looks like the protag, but after the Hero's journey is done

The second game, you play as her and she absolutely fucks.

That's what I was seeing as a trans allegory in these games

[–] chonglibloodsport@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Allegory is one kind of evidence, arguably one of the most obvious sorts of evidence. It’s not the only kind though. I have never played the Hollow Knight games so I didn’t know those facts you just mentioned. Still, from what I’ve seen of the games in screenshots, I get a vibe.

Perhaps part of it to me is that the protagonist is non human, barely even resembling anything humanoid? There’s also a gloominess, a loneliness to it.

Not saying these vibes are in any way a perfect diagnostic. Heck, I wouldn’t have predicted the announcement beforehand. But in hindsight it feels right.

[–] victorz@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Granted I haven't played more than a couple hours of the first game, but all I'm seeing is a genderless skeleton looking character who doesn't have much personality whatsoever lol. Maybe I'm not seeing it, or need to play longer through the story. 😅

If the game is good, people will play it. For many people the game itself is more important rather than who created it. Even for people that dont support LGBTQ+ community.
