Donald Trump has announced he will run for president in 2028 during a rambling speech to the Washington press corps.

Trump was speaking at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner when he appeared to make the announcement.

I won three times, now I’m gonna do it again,” he said, while putting on a cap that read “Trump 2028″.

“I’m gonna do it again. It should be easy.”

He went on to add that he won in 2020 but the election was rigged.

The 80-year-old was met with a smattering of applause, but even he did not seem excited by the moment.

Over the dead body of every patriot that stands for the Constitution, which reads in pertinent part:

No person shall be elected to the office of the President more than twice

-22nd Amendment

*Edit: Here's the video of his announcement:

He seem like he's just joking to you?

it’s a stark reminder that the constitution is not immutable. amendments are changes, and they may seem “hard to do” but with this regime and supreme court, they won’t stop until they pretend they did this legally. remember: nazis were legal.

[–] flandish@lemmy.world 2 points 12 minutes ago

they’re gonna claim “term” means something longer than 4 years; biden got in illegally; therefore trump would still be in his first term.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 minutes ago

I hope whoever enabled autoplay on that website loses their favorite pair of socks

[–] man_wtfhappenedtoyou@lemmy.world 1 points 19 minutes ago

God he's so fat. Just a fat disgusting blob of a fat fucking turd in a suit looking burnt shit, ugly fat bastard.

[–] ChonkyLincoln@lemmy.zip 22 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Can we finally skip to the part where we arrest him?!

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 10 points 2 hours ago

That part will never happen. No matter what - he's getting away with it. He's too old to face any real consequences.

What we need to ensure is that responsibility doesn't end with him. We need a new round of Nuremberg trials and his cronies and enablers need to be held to account.

No mercy. Those in the military who executed illegal orders should be court-martialed and executed.

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 hours ago

If I could trust the system to actually enforce the Constitution, I'd say bring it on. The 22nd amendment never prohibits running when you're ineligible to be elected. I'd actually love to see him run, "win", and then have to watch his opponent get sworn in because he's not eligible.

IF I could actually trust that the Constitution would be enforced.

According to the supreme everything he does is legal now

[–] Catma@lemmy.world 6 points 2 hours ago (1 children)

Oh damn its illegal?

Clearly the God Emperor would never do anything illegal.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 37 minutes ago

Everything before this was fine, but I have to draw the line somewhere! /s

[–] MrVilliam@sh.itjust.works 31 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

Good Lord. If trump looked any more like roadkill, he'd have to fight to keep RFK Jr from trying to eat him. He looks like absolute dogshit. I didn't think it was possible for somebody to look worse than Steve Bannon, and to be fair it's really fucking close, but trump does manage to look like a slightly worse, bloated corpse here.

But he's also a shitty president and a shitty person. Fuck trump. I can't wait to open my bottle of bourbon when it happens.

[–] altphoto@lemmy.today 7 points 5 hours ago

RFK: Oh look!, I need to remove his penis for later. ..... wait, where is the penis? I should be here somewhere!

[–] dizzle18@lemmy.zip 10 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The morbidly obese fucktwit with a shitty spray tan and a flappy vagina on his neck thinks he can mock other people's physical appearances. The irony is fucking rich.

[–] SippyCup@lemmy.world 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

This man has pulmonary edema. I've heard that voice before. If fluid is building up in his lungs, and it sure sounds like it is, he's not going to survive to run again. The best medical care in the world won't fix that. Just, slow it down.

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 1 points 10 minutes ago

I lost a cat that way. It sucked, they seemed confused and scared and in pain. So, you know, fingers crossed.

[–] corbindallas@fedinsfw.app 11 points 6 hours ago

[–] Typotyper@sh.itjust.works 18 points 8 hours ago

Then I hope you fuckers vote for Obama

[–] Colonel_Panic_@eviltoast.org 116 points 11 hours ago (3 children)

Don't forget that he is only president NOW because we are already ignoring the constitution. Don't act like breaking a different amendment is any different. We already lost our constitution and rule of law when we stopped enforcing them.

14th amendment - Section 3

"No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability."

He engaged in insurrection, Congress never voted to remove it, he is holding office NOW despite our constitution stating quite clearly he is ineligible.

Illegitimate president.

[–] jballs@sh.itjust.works 6 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Yeah, the Supreme Court finding that the President was exempt from that wording really shows you the how they are willing to jump through to take over the government.

I'm horrified but also morbidly curious to see what bullshit they'll be coming up with next to let Trump continue to rule.

[–] Colonel_Panic_@eviltoast.org 1 points 1 hour ago

They can just declare "a term" to mean 10 years. Or say "the law means two CONSECUTIVE terms is the limit" or whatever they want.

If no one stops them or holds them accountable or enforces the law or constitution then what's the point of having any laws?

Not that laws have ever been fairly enforced, but come on...

[–] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

The supreme court is on his side

[–] ContactClosure@lemmus.org 1 points 5 hours ago (1 children)

And that's why they need to be abolished. It was obviously a bad idea, let's try something else.

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago (2 children)

Im curious what the alternative to an ultimate judicial authority might look like?

[–] BertramDitore@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 hours ago (2 children)

The court should be made up of a rotating panel of judges, made up of judges from the district courts, or lower courts in general, so the judges themselves are also subject to the court’s rulings, rather than a few permanent power-hungry narcissists imperiously sitting above us all with no accountability.

Each judge must be part of the Supreme Court for a year or two at a time, call it a “detail,” then they go back to their normal job as a judge.

[–] agamemnonymous@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 hours ago

That actually seems pretty practical.

[–] Windex007@lemmy.world 1 points 2 hours ago

Ok, yeah, this sounds reasonable to me.

This is still describing an ultimate judicial authority (aka, a "Supreme court") just one with an alternative formulation of the conditions for which one serves on the court.

Original guy seemed to imply just getting rid of it as a concept entirely.

[–] A404@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

Something more horizontal.

[–] Colonel_Panic_@eviltoast.org 1 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Jury duty, but for the judges too?

[–] Soggy@lemmy.world 1 points 8 minutes ago

I hope not, I'm pretty convinced that jury duty is a bad idea because average citizens are very easily misled by legal professionals.

[–] DisasterTransport@startrek.website 32 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

You can bullshit around the insurrection label, but the term limit is pretty cut and dry. Not going to stop them, but the ramp is how we got here.

[–] Colonel_Panic_@eviltoast.org 2 points 1 hour ago

Is it though? I've already seen arguments like "It only means two CONSECUTIVE terms" and other such bs arguments.

The thing is, if no one enforces a law then you have no law. You can write a rule on a piece of paper, but if you don't follow it what does it actually mean?

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 7 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago) (3 children)

Why is this site acting like the joke he made at the correspondents dinner that happened months ago was a real announcement?

Also why are so many users pushing this narrative that he's just testing the waters now? Where were you right after he made that announcement back then?

This seems more like a ragebait and distraction from the real political headlines and recent news.

[–] jpreston2005@lemmy.world 2 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago)

Sounds like you're intentionally downplaying a constitutional crisis. The first one was interrupted by a gunman trying to save America. This rescheduled one was last night, where he announced his intention to run for a third term.

[–] bomberesque@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

The one months ago he was evacuated from because of that nutter

This appears to have been this week

If it's a joke then he's being Schrodinger's arsehole

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

See I thought it was months ago and this had me scratching my head, thought I'd remembered wrong.

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world -1 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

You didn't lose your mind. It seems like some news media sites are being manipulated either by some shitty LLM or they are actually doing exactly what an LLM thinks is a good idea. There also seems to be some astroturfing or bot seeding going on too because a lot of the posters and commenters with their "outrage" are the same morons recycling old ragebait content.

[–] borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 hour ago* (last edited 1 hour ago) (1 children)

The one in April was cancelled before Trump spoke because an armed person charged the security checkpoint in the hotel. It was rescheduled. The rescheduled White House Correspondents' Dinner took place on Friday, July 24, 2026, at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C.. Trump attended and delivered a lengthy, hourlong speech.

After checking my calendar, I can confirm that July 24th was in fact yesterday, meaning Trump gave this speech less than 24 hours ago. No one’s astroturfing or being manipulated by a language model about this.

[–] Malyca@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 hour ago

Ah that makes sense thanks!

[–] EndOfLine@lemmy.world 51 points 13 hours ago (3 children)

2016, Obama was president: Trump thinks that there were no problems with the elections.

2018, Trump was president: Trump doubts the legitimacy of the midterm elections

2020, Trump was president: Trump thinks that the elections were rigged.

2022, Biden was president: Trump has no complaints about the elections and calls it a "great night".

2024, Biden was president: Trump does not doubt the legitimacy of the elections.

2026, Trump is president: Trump thinks that the midterm elections are going to be rigged.

I think that I am starting to see a pattern forming.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 1 points 26 minutes ago

It is a common issue. The person who is loudly making the accusations is the often responsible for the crime. I have seen this several times at restaurants and in retail. The person pointing fingers is often the culprit.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Trump absolutely thinks there were over 3 million illegal votes in 2016 and the reason he didn't win the popular vote. While president he didn't demand or even mention having an investigation into what would have been the largest democratic voting fraud case in world history. There should have been thousands of arrests to pull off 3+ million illegal votes.

Only two outcomes.

  1. He made it up on the spot because he hates to lose anything.
  2. He was right but also extremely incompetent in not calling for an investigation and there were somehow no whistle blowers nor any evidence at all and he almost never talks about it later.
[–] neoman4426@fedia.io 21 points 12 hours ago

To be fairer to Pedonald than might be reasonable, he did question the 2016 results. Both before the election as a "if I lose it must have been rigged, because that would make me sad", and after as a "I totally won the popular vote too, and every single state, but those fake votes made it look like I didn't."

[–] SailorFuzz@lemmy.world 91 points 15 hours ago (6 children)

From that website....

wtf? plz, no. That idea needs to be shot down right now.
