As a particularly awkward child, I only learned that you could share each others' business. Shit stopped pretty quickly when I talked about theirs.

Then later she would always whine about how I never told her anything.

My mom learned this lesson after she told people about my sister-in-law’s miscarriage. My mom wondered why I didn’t send her get well wishes and I was like, “Well, I wasn’t supposed to know about it in the first place, since sis-in-law didn’t tell me she was pregnant. So messaging her about it wouldn’t be very tactful.”

It took many years and being kept from a lot of information, but she’s finally learning.

My 10 yo anxiety stories became MY topicstarters now - work great every time!

I was going to say this, being able to talk comfortably about that stuff is usually a sign of emotional security. It's not your mom's to share though

I'm pretty sure this is why I have a compulsive need to hide literally every action I do from others

how do you grocery shop, do you have like a cloak over your cart or something? so no one can see what you are buying?

Walmart delivers

Or else I bite the bullet and go anyway, letting my nerves distract me into forgetting something

When I describe my 10 year old life to other folks they tell me I was an abused child.

Mostly because I spent a lot of time out in the woods with my friends and playing video games, and apparently that's 'abuse/neglect' by today's standards for children. I was supposed to be doped up on meds and have every moment of my childhood filled with 'productive activities'. Probably why I am not depressed and anxious like many of my peers.

Apparently letting your children have unsupervised unstructured time is child abuse now.

I was an abused child and all I got to show for it is a psychopath's charisma and a cat's reflexes.

Right, but this is a generation that thought the EPA is a terrorist organization. Fresh air is fucking evil.

In 1980s the EPA blew up a firehouse that resulted in noxious gasses being released into a major city.

My mom likes to tell the story of the time they had friends over, everyone chilling the in the kitchen.

I walked downstairs that night, apparently sleepwalking, opened the fridge door, opened the crisper drawer, peed in it, then closed everything up and went back to bed. I might have been 6 at the time.

Never happened again.

As a parent, I'm sharing all the weird things my kids are doing in my journal and then locking it away forever.

They do so many weird things. And the fear is just like this picture: friends come over and I suddenly pop like, "Oh yeah my 5yo decided to be a dog today and pee on the neighbor's yard."

So putting it on paper hopefully releases the demons.

No thank you, I have a handful gripped tighter than I did with those GME shares.
