I remember when Apple was outright against anything sex related, even tame things.

Is there a pornhub app? I don't think so.
Apple is fighting pornographic material reaching iPhones via downloads from the newly mandated competitors to Apple’s App Store. [source]
Also, they claim that these are "nudify" apps, but they are just faceswap tools?
While I agree they shouldn't be there... This is exactly why we shouldn't have centralized control.
Because yesterday it was the anti ICE apps. Today it's these. Tomorrow it can and be anything.
Living through this has taught me that while I was a strong federalist to try and guarantee rights and build out what I think will help society, it only takes one rogue faction to turn it all against you.

the thing i've learned is that even if there's no fascist, and everybody does their best, things can still go horribly wrong because cultural differences aren't respected. for example, in one country, tattoos are illegal because they're associated with organized crime. in one small village though, tattoos are an ancient and sacred art and outlawing them does a lot of harm. so even when the politicians try their best to "clean up the place", cultural differences lead to damage to minorities. that's why federal politics shouldn't regulate anything that's non-commercial. in general, this is a reply to your comment, and has nothing to do with this post specifically.
I disagree that federal politics shouldn't regulate anything non-commercial. I would argue that its primary purpose should be to enshrined minimal standards for, among other things, things like civil liberties. Part of establishing and protecting civil libierties means regulating discrimination and disenfranchisement to AT LEAST a baseline of equality across every state.
yeaah the US has a lot of special history. preventing slavery is an important task of the fed. gov.
yet i see the problems that overall fed. gov. interference with own personal life can do.
Same Apple and Google who say we aren't safe unless we let them choose which apps are on our phones?
And why aren't they going after Musk and his CSAM tool, grok as well
Because the law need not apply to the rich and powerful
