Fans of Taylor Swift have been shocked after it emerged that a contractor for the controversial Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) was in attendance at her wedding.

...

It appears that Steven J. Demetriou, the Executive Chair of a company called Amentum Services was also among the crowd gathered to see the happy couple say ‘I do.’

Amentum Services is currently the sole contractor for ICE’s Camp East Montana, a detention centre in El Paso.

The artist has faced swift backlash for her choice of guests, including online commenters who have shared their dismay on social media.

No War But The Class War.

If they weren't blindly devoted to the brand imagine, they would have noticed she's just another rich piece of shit

[–] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

If I were a billionaire I'd keep giving my money away to bring it down to 900 million or so. Then I could hide better. Also, I've always wanted to buy one of those super yachts and a politician. /s

[–] Muffi@programming.dev 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You're in luck! There is a huge sale on buying politicians under the current administration

[–] sulgoth@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago

There’s always been sales on politicians, this admin just lets them be more blatant.

I dated a swiftie a few years back.

One of the most clueless individuals I've ever met. Stanned both Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj then turned around and called herself a leftist.

Fans are fucking dumb.

[–] Leviathan@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Idolizing other humans is idiotic in general. You can enjoy someone's artistic output, but always be ready to say fuck them and their art if they turn out to be trash. They owe me nothing and I owe them nothing.

[–] elucubra@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 day ago

Weir Al's fans would like a word.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 3 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Ah you'll shake it off.

(I'll go ahead and show myself out the door now)

Haha, you joke but she actually managed to do some psychic damage to me. For no other reason than she accurately deduced what I was doing for entirely incorrect reasons.

She thought I was lying to her because I wanted to manipulate and control her. The reality is that I was much more attracted to her personality (the bits not mired in social media bullshit, like her ability to draw). What I was lying about was the sex being good. My god I have never been more disappointed in a woman, I am to this day convinced she's gay.

[–] FreddiesLantern@leminal.space 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

Oh I'm sorry to hear that.

[–] Jax@sh.itjust.works 1 points 19 hours ago

Eh, I shouldn't have lied to her — we're both better off.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 12 points 2 days ago (5 children)

I'm old.

What does Stanned mean?

[–] Croquette@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

A stan is a hardcore fan. Stanned is the verb of that expression

backed or vouched for, from a parasocial standpoint.

[–] greatwhitebuffalo41@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 day ago (1 children)

How old? Because, it's an Eminem reference. Not saying you can't be older than that reference but, it's been around awhile.

[–] CubitOom@infosec.pub 5 points 1 day ago (2 children)

I've heard the song but never seen the name used as a verb until recently.

[–] titanicx@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 day ago

Been used for years and years my man. First time I recall it was all the lebronstans following the Lakers. Then I saw it like everywhere

Absolutely valid. I'm a little slow and only put the two concepts together like a year ago haha. I knew what the term meant, I had heard the song, it took me many years to put it together. Oops lol

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

mega fan, from the Eminem f/t Dido song Stan about an obsessive fan.

I saw an article about how fans were excited that they were giving out leftover food from MSG... Here I'll just find the quote:

With more than 1,000 guests in attendance, there was naturally plenty of food. A Krispy Kreme truck carrying doughnuts was seen leaving the venue, along with boxes from Sweet Baby Ray's, the barbecue sauce brand, and Butterball (known for its turkey products).

She's a fucking billionaire, and her wedding food is all (likely free) product endorsement, brand name bullshit.

Zero class. Zero taste.

She's a billionaire, cost is entirely irrelevant. They could have had quite literally anything, and they chose Krispy Kreme and Butterball Turkey

OK, but...

One moment at the ceremony has sparked outrage after Girls star Lena Dunham reportedly left fellow attendees shocked.

According to Daily Mail, her speech described football as ‘just straight guys reenacting gay porn.’

Taylor Swift is a billionaire. Those who had the illusion that a billionaire can be anything other than a disgusting member of the unelected ruling elite just got a reality check.

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 72 points 3 days ago (5 children)

Isn't she from a wealthy family too?

[–] Avicenna@programming.dev 9 points 2 days ago

She is Daddy's entertainment investment that paid very well in return

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 94 points 3 days ago (39 children)

yes, thus the reason she's famous. she bought her way to fame to provide the masses with her mediocre music. and if anyone tells you it ISN'T medicore, they're lying to you and themselves.

https://www.reddit.com/r/TaylorSwift/comments/15zzftc/how_did_taylor_swift_parents_help_her_reach_the/

TLDR her dad works in finance, moved the family to Nashville, and supported her career at every step. So she very much got carried by her parents even if they didn't buy her fame.

Given the Music Industry's history of insidership and hand selecting artists for the highest level of promotion; I think the lack of "smoking guns" such as her parents mass buying her albums or paying off producers etc just shows how inorganic and corporatized popular music is.

The fact that she's alt-country is the smoking gun. WWE is less fake than Country Music.

[–] ohulancutash@feddit.uk 33 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Her father bought a shareholding in the record label that then signed her.

"followers of billionaire shocked to find out billionaires act like billionaires, don't care about fans opinions"

You CANNOT be a billionaire AND a good person. The two are not compatible. If you were a truly good and decent person who cares about others, you WOULDN'T BE A BILLIONAIRE

[–] stoly@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (10 children)

If I were a billionaire my job would quickly be to find good ways to give away my money. Cancer research, paying for school lunches, fund libraries, found some sort of institution that makes life better for people.

I think I'd just buy the same politicians they do to fund that stuff permanently instead.

Mostly I agree with this but not as a blanket statement. I wouldn't view it as "good or bad", but rather " does their behavior cause harm?". In the cause of the vast majority of billionaires, yes, they cause harm to get to where they are. Examples like Swift, Jackson and Rowling where they have become billionaires through entertainment are less straightforward. But there is still the question of why are they hoarding all that money, which quite obviously does harm

[–] EggInDisguise@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Billionaires DO NOT BECOME BILLIONAIRES THROUGH HARD WORK

They become stupid rich via exploitation.

Barring some massive astronomical movie coincidence that makes the rich overnight by surprise, they got their wealth DISHONESTLY.

THERE ARE NO GOOD BILLIONAIRES.

By holding on to it instead of using all but what they actually NEED (lpt you don't NEED a 15 million dollar house) they prove it every single day.

Taylor swift could almost single handedly ensure no child in the US goes hungry, yet.... Doesn't. List any number of charities a billionaire donates to, the fact that they're still a billionaire means it's NOT ENOUGH.

Every day they have many orders of magnitude more than the average person, they prove they're pieces of shit not worth our time.

[–] OldChicoAle@lemmy.world 100 points 3 days ago (10 children)

She's an evil billionaire. No billionaires are good people

[–] isles@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)
